Have been looking at the Eero 6 and 6 Pro for the last few days as both support Apple HomeKit and have in-built thread radios so should support the upcoming Matter standard which most manufacturers will align to for standardisation of the way Smart Home devices communicate with each other. Looks like this is the cheapest they've ever been (Camel & HotUKDeals).

Genuinely these are garbage if you have a house with solid brick walls, I received the pro versions of these x2 free with talk talk 900 fibre and they are nigh on useless through 1 wall! My old tenda mesh system would work 5 doors down the street! And cost about £60 for 3 units, also worth pointing out - these run really hot 🔥- so I presume use or waste lots of power.

Which version did you get? 6 Pro or the original Pro?

I rate them a very good value for money.
I have 3 of them with one provided by talktalk and 2 bought from cex for £90 each. Keep checking and place an alert.
Triband and wifi 6 does wonders to modern devices.
I also use these as zigbee hub for my sensors. (edited)

They are cheap from CEX but if you get a talk talk one which most are, they will be blocked. How long have you had yours?

Mine was blocked 6 months after purchase. CEX refunded and I got another but it is talk talk again so I've bought this from amazon and will send the talk talk back to cex.

Managed to get a hub 5 out of Virgin but I doubt very much it's gonna be anywhere near as good. My internet was unusable on hub3 before I got an eero. Since then it just works all the time. Don't know why internet providers spend all the money on their network and give you routers that undo all their work.

I live in a three bed Victorian property with the kids bedrooms at the far end of the house.
I had used powerline plugs and while workable were not good on speed.

About a 18 months ago I purchased a set of three 2nd gen Eero cupcake and what a transformation for wifi.
Speeds and reliability went up round the house but as these are not wired together the speed does drop off.

I managed a few months back to get a good deal on VM 1gb and already had been "selected" to get a VM 5 router about 2 weeks before the deal.
So I stumped to get the Eero Pro 6 for the living room and cupcake that was there moved into the kitchen to beef up the wifi in that area and also in the very rear bedroom.
    So my set up is:
VM Router (Modem) - Eero Pro 6 - Network Switch - PC all hardwired - Then all wireless - Eero 2nd gen in Main bedroom - 2nd gen in Bedroom 2 all on the hall way and 2nd gen in the kitchen.

So to give an example right now using my Samsung 22 Ultra for wifi speeds and Fast.com for the speed tests:
Living room wifi 6 connected to the Pro = 810Mbps
Very rear of the house connected the Kitchen Eero = 120Mbps

My plan is to replace the cupcakes with either the 6+ or Pro and then taking other ones to my In laws as they have a need for better wifi.

I have yet to subscribe to Eero Secure (Not really sure it's for me just yet) but the parental controls so that I can groups tech into owners and setting time limits without any subscription has certainly helped.
The app is very clear on what you can do and is simple enough for those who just want a system without too much hassle.

Would love if a VPN could be used within the modem rather than by device but for our needs has been worth it.

Stumped up the £300 for the 3-pack in the end. Installed yesterday and so far so good.

Range Tick - We’ve got a 5-bed detached house built 2007, so apart from a couple of supporting walls on the ground floor it’s pretty much all partition walls. Size is just over 2,000 sq feet and getting great signal now in all areas upstairs and down - where previously was getting about 50% speed drop in corners of two bedrooms, was about 35mbps and now getting 70mbps. Also getting 60mbps beyond the front garden on the road, and at the back of rear garden.

Speed not sure - We’ve only got 78mbps VDSL and that’s working at pretty much max across the house now. Sky Q is also using the same network so there is some additional load between the main box and 3 minis. Ping is really good over wireless and when doing speed test the level of stutter is lower. No issues so far but no opportunity to test with a 500mbps/1gps connection (I wish).

Capacity Tick - So far got 48 devices connected and noticed no issues. We’ve 2 teenage daughters and feedback is all good with streaming and using their phones/iPads etc. Main Eero (router) is slightly warmer than the other 2 but we’re talking minimal heat - think a babies bottle which is ready for a baby to drink and you’d be in the ball park. I assume this is 1.4ghz processor with no active cooling. It’s not as warm as my TP-Link Deco M5s used to get.

Interface Tick - It’s pretty sparse so probably not one for the tweakers and enthusiasts but I personally welcome the simplicity. Detects and notifies of new devices when they connect. You can name them, categorise them, add them to user profiles etc. 30 Days free Eero secure which is doing some sort of threat management amongst other things - see how that goes.

Time will tell on reliability and software updates etc but so far comfortably best wifi we’ve had in this house and we’ve tried a few:

    Sky Hub 2
    Sky Hub 3
    Sky Q Mesh
    TP-Link VR600
    TP-Link Deco M5 with W9970 Modem
Sky Hub 4 with Booster 4 Extender

Probably not the absolute best wifi out there and probably not the cheapest but very happy customer at this point. Hoping it’s a fire and forget solution which will last us a good 4-5 years.

No idea what’s going off with this deal. Posted it originally as the Eero 6 pro at 40% off and a moderator changed it to 11% putting in the original price of the lesser spec Eero 6.

So I changed the link and description to the Eero 6 and put those prices in and now a moderator has switched it back. Plus I’m now not allowed to edit my own deal. WTF!!! (edited)

Apparently because I listed it as 1 product and then tried to change it to multiple products it was misleading and I may have gained some heat disingenuously.

It seems to be fair game to list all the products individually now - if anyone has time for that fill your boots - I’m sure it’s what the community wants to see (10 individual listings instead of 1)… (edited)

I have these and it's transformed our WiFi. I've no experience of any other systems other than bundled routers so can't compare, but had zero problems since having them and that's a family of 5 streaming multiple videos (including UHD) on a 70mbps line. (edited)

    Replying to

I'm sure you'll see an improvement. In the room next to the router it's 67mbps and in the room furthest away it's 61 - that's two brick walls and a ceiling!

Anyone got any advice for this or better options for a bigger home and 1gb internet. Tried a netgear extender no good, tried a tp link router with atennas.

Provider uses nokia router and offer nokia beacons but they are £80 each.

Got dead spots upstairs and lose alot of speed close to the deadspot

Based on my reading the best solution depends on your specific needs but with 1gb internet you at least need Wifi 6 and a tri-band radio - unless you plan to hard wire the nodes in which case some dual band setups might be ok.

Wish I had those problems. 78mb out in the sticks for me - just looking to kill dead spots, have great ping for games consoles, and get all might smart home stuff to play nice. Hence itching to pull the trigger on these.

If you have a large house, the trick is to have hard wires running through in different rooms, and have all the eeros connected via Ethernet. You'd say.. well that's pointless, and to some extend I'd agree, but the benefit is that, all devices are on the same network, therefore the mesh does what it is supposed to do. Secondly, because all eeros are hardwired, you get close 500mb over wifi across all rooms, which in my books is a win!

I have the cables in already so was thinking of doing exactly this. Running a Sky Q Booster 4 at the moment off of a Hub 4. Had to turn wifi off on all my Sky Q gear and hardwire it because it played havoc with my iPhone 8 when I originally got it. The Sky Q mesh is pants.

It was connectivity issues with printer and an Echo Show which prompted the search for new wifi in the first place, but this morning I found one of my Sky Q minis had turned its wifi back on. Same channel and same SSID and sat about a foot apart. Turned the wifi off on the Q mini and all is well again. (edited)

Have gone for a Pro as the main router just because it has extra CPU/Memory and apparently some of the Eero labs features are/will be for the Pro.

I’ve got wired backhaul so no real need for tri-band on the satellites.

Have a couple of these from TalkTalk, on a 500Mbit line. Speeds across the house were ok (line comes in at front door so it has to be placed there), but my main PC is complete opposite side (of 2 bed home). Using my Wi-Fi 6 card got me around 300Mbit, so tried extending with the 2nd node in the middle of the house which gave worse speeds tried moving it to my PC, same issue. I get the full 500-ish if I just bring the 2nd node and plug it in via ethernet to the PC with the node hidden under my desk.

TLDR: Try using additional nodes as a wi-fi card replacement by plugging directly in if you have multiple and are across the house from the line coming in. (although a good 4x4 Wi-Fi card could probably replace this) (edited)

These must be the best ISP provided router on the market right now? Do any other ISPs provide WiFi6 meshed kit yet?

I believe BT do. I was scanning my wifi earlier and picked up a router broadcasting AX signal with a BT SSID.

    Anyone offer any advice?
I have just moved to Talk Talk 500 and got the 6 Pro version of this AP
I currently have 3 x Huawei AX3 Quad core in a mesh network handling the wifi network. I have never need over convinced by these tbh as get significant drop off as i move away from the AP. Far worse than my old Tenda network MW6. The downside to the tenda is there is limited config with their app.

Should I sack the Huawei AX3.mesh off and invest in maybe 1 or 2 more eeros? Maybr flog them go try and offset the cost?

Picked up a 6 and a pro 6 off eBay for £113 so will let you know how it goes in a couple of days.

Had TP-Link Deco M5s sat behind a sky modem router and it was brilliant for coverage and good enough for speed. Unfortunately had to swap them out due to double Nat issues when son-in-law moved in with his PlayStation. Now running Sky Hub 4 with a Booster hub 4 which isn’t terrible by the way but drops to about 50% speed in corners of the house.

These are awful in a house with internal brick walls and get very hot when on (which obviously obviously is 24 hours so no doubt waste loads of electricity as well) also one signal drops to 1 to 2 bars they disconnect. Absolute garbage.

So you’ve said. There are equally many positive reviews of them as well though.

Unique selling point for me is the secure HomeKit integration and the presence of a Thread radio to support the upcoming Matter standards across multiple vendors.

I had been looking at the Linksys Velop as the other HomeKit supporting offer but they have not made any statement of intent about a future upgrade for Matter and there are no Zigbee/Thread radios in their devices anyways.

I’ve got an Eero 6 and a 6 Pro coming off of eBay for £113 so will see how they perform, if no good they’ll go beck on, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have 78mbps VDSL from Sky and a modern house with paper thin walls. I’m after coverage and stability more than outright speed - I also would like a fire and forget solution as I am tired of messing with settings and tweeking stuff. (edited)

What internal transfer speed between devices am I likely to get on these?

Was considering buying these to get better local transfer speeds than my Tender MW6 ac mesh gets me.. Was hoping I’d get improved performance for my Oculus wirelessly connected to the PC. Bit worried about the comments on here saying these perform worse than the Tenda though..

Tenda recently released the MX6 (WIFI6)
Looks to be a good improvement on previous and is sub £200 but only dual band.

Not a bad price for these, especially straight from Amazon as they'll be unbranded unlike a lot of the second hand ones on eBay/CeX which are TalkTalk branded (TT WILL brick them in waves every now and again).

I however had an absolute nightmare with packet loss (rendering video calls unusable) with these and just can't recommend them as convenient as they are. Each software update seems to introduce a bunch of new bugs and it's a coin toss as to whether the update makes or breaks your setup.

Received these today, setup and initial impression is not good at all. My experience matches the person above who previously had Tenda MW6.

Very good on the first Gateway Eero, getting the full 1Gb download speed via WiFi when close to it so that’s the good thing. But once I install the second one, I get slightly worse speed than I do with my Tenda MW6 AC Dual Band Mesh in the same location, only around 200Mb/s. The Tenda gets close to 300Mb/s. By time I get to the 2nd floor/3rd device the Tenda is absolutely destroying the Eero, 120Mb/s to a struggling 30-40. The range of each access point seems to be much smaller than the Tenda MW6 too.

With these at over £300, I will definitely be sticking with my old Mesh (which can be bought new for around £80 atm!) and just take the loss on only getting around 400Mb/s around the main access point (edited)
