Master League Remastered

Huge changes are coming to fan-favourite mode Master League, headlined by a powerful new interactive dialogue system that puts the reins firmly in players hands when it comes to controlling story progression. This enables players to choose responses that suit their personality to drive progression and create their own personal Master League story.

The transfer market in PES 2020 will also feature a brand-new algorithm ensuring that transfers, transfer fees, salaries and other elements are in close alignment with reality.

Further additions include

  • Create and customise sponsor logos that will be displayed on the media backdrop during interviews and on the Master League main menu screen
  • Customise manager models with a greater level of freedom thanks to high-performance 3D scanning technology to capture images of individuals of varying body shapes and sizes
  • Or play through Master League using one of several legendary managers as your avatar, including Zico, Cruyff and Maradona

Brand-New Mode: Matchday

In a brand-new mode for PES 2020, Matchday distils the essence of football culture into a competitive format that lifts players out of the spectator stands and puts them onto the pitch. Align yourself with one of two different sides at the start of each weekly event, where every perfectly placed pass and showstopping goal unleashed contributes points towards victory.

Stand alongside PES newcomers and seasoned veterans alike as you work together to build an advantage for your side ahead of the Grand Final. As each weekly event enters its final phase, the results from all Group Matches played are analysed to find the best performing user from each side. These users are selected as Representatives, earning the right to compete in the Grand Final on behalf of their chosen side – fully viewable via a livestream feed in Matchday mode.

Additional game features

  • Beyond Master League and Matchday, numerous significant changes have been made to PES 2020 as a direct result of fan feedback. This includes upgraded trapping mechanics and new techniques; context-sensitive kick accuracy; more realistic defence and the addition of the intentional foul; an adaptive player interaction system that recreates player personalities on the pitch; and much more
  • The beautiful game has never looked better this year, with PES 2020 introducing an enhanced lighting engine, improved player models, realistic cutscenes and replay footage, plus a completely new preset camera angle that offers a compelling broadcast feel.

fifa is still miles ahead.

In sales, modes, licences, online play etc. I would agree with you. But, in my and many others opinion, PES trumps FIFA in terms of the core gameplay mechanic.

If you like playing online and need the presentation style of football - get FIFA.

If you want to just play a good football game - get PES.
Never played PES. Gave up on Fifa months ago as it's the same crap every year.

Will probably give this a go as I keep hearing good things about PES.

PES feels more like football, whereas FIFA has always played like a more arcade version of the game. I was a big PES fan on the PS2, but switched to FIFA between 2010-2016. I agree, FIFA for me got too stale and felt too much style over content. I hope you enjoy PES.

Think PES has been running the show game play wise for the past 2 years. Get an Option File and you are good to go.
Looks more like PES 19.2 from gameplay videos

Not in gameplay, maybe in presentation.
Official partner of Manchester United.

They lost the European Champions for the worst United team in years.

Classic Konami.

Yes, PES gameplay is far superior. Always has been (except maybe 2008-14). But as always been...the major problem...online.

Konami have never gotten it right. Not even once.

1 in 10 matches on FIFA I suffer a connection issue (lag). Whereas in PES, its more like 1 in 10 matches I DON'T suffer a connection issue.

Add to that the long wait times to actually get a game on PES, then the toxic community that insists on messaging you with insults and accusations when you defeat them...and really, PES isn't that much of an attractive proposition, despite the obviously superior gameplay.

I'm desperate to give it all another go, but I know I'll be disappointed. Myclub and Ultimate team are two modes I really like too. But I know what to expect, and don't expect to ever change.

Connection issues, that maybe down to your ISP? The only ones I get are when the other online players disconnect in temper when I score which maybe are about 1 in 30 games. I don't get any general disconnection issues at all, and never wait more than a minute for a game when I play online divisions (don't restrict the search for a player options). As for player insults etc, thats pretty normal in any online game and not exclusive to PES. However, you can set your PS4 profile to receive messages from friends only etc if they bother you.

Not ISP issues. It's PES.
Wish i had the strength to give up FIFA. I'm sure PES actually is good, but can't stick away from fifa, no matter how bad EA make the game...
Shame it wasn't free recently so people could give it a go. But I don't think I'd be buying this ever again. Thing I hated about FIFA was the scripting. PES has started to introduce this and now is full incorporated into all competitive game modes. So friendlies are fine but other modes are awful. Remember the old days of Pes. Beating my mate 198 times in a row... That would never happen now.

Another huge negative is online. Which is the most important part of a football game. For me playing against the CPU is boring.
PES online is very laggy and STILL after 4 or 5 years open to speed test disconnect cheating... Very simple to fix but konami expect players to video record cheats and report them online... You notice the same players at the top of the leaderboard every year with over 90% win ratios. When you play them. They are awful and go 2-0 down they just disconnect without penalty...

Yes, online play is better on FIFA. But I personally found I got far too stressed playing online anyway, largely due to sh*thousery tactics from other players.

I just prefer playing Master League or Be a Pro mode now anyway.

You're right. But I can't play against the comp any more. I've been playing since the SNES days. It's boring to me after all these years. I need the online, but yes...its full of cheats and lag. Its largely unplayable. So for me, unless its same couch action (which is harder and harder as time goes on), the game is dead. Such a shame.
Hoping Master League really does get a proper overhaul this year, as that's what will get me back on it over FIFA.
How good are they with deliveries come launch day?
PES everyday since 1997
The FIFA/PES debate still raging on, I see

Been going for about 15 years!
I will wait till a month after release when it inevitably drops by 60% in price.
Hope they’re gonna add Red cards & Penalties to Master League this year. Have never had a penalty and never seen an opposition player sent off when playing Master League
Big fan of PES but the new name is
The price is actually £33.95! Thanks OP

You are entitled to your wrong opinion 😁

Nearly every review you will read will rates pes higher. That is year on year too not a one off.

fifa is all presentation and no real substance.

a simple upload of an option file and pes has all the kits and names corrected and the gameplay is so much better than fifa.
Well everyone's berating me for saying FIFA is miles ahead but each year konami fail to put something in the game that is truly different and innovative to FIFA. EA have taken everything that was good in PES on PS2 and developed it to the skies. I had so much hope for PES when they switched engines but they've done nothing that really can make me buy in. All that new interactive master league has been in FIFA since 17 and can we all be honest and agree that MyClub is garbage and just a pathetic attempt at an ultimate team type mode. Say what you want about FIFA but EA always make a solid game with a variety of modes that keep on changing each year. They've now even managed to add street football in before PES and that's something the FOX engine would've worked great with and even PES itself as street football doesn't have much focus on licenses. They also lost out on UEFA competitions and all the fake fans switched over. FIFA is just miles ahead and have become ahead of the curve each year. Look at the journey, pro clubs, and how career mode has developed since fifa 10. Konami just aren't pulling their weight anymore with PES and need a total refresh when it comes to the direction they're going in. I'm not bothered about licensed kits, I'd play the game without any if i had to but the fact is they have an edit mode and fifa doesn't but still haven't utilised this for in game creations is beyond me. Take a look at 2K NBA's creation suites online and offline, they're miles ahead on that front too. Why can't Konami just give people a real, true alternative to FIFA. Games are supposed to be fun at the end of the day.

I have never had a connection issue on PES 2018 or 19, nor have I ever been messaged by anyone after a match, positively or negatively.

I can't believe you've never had a connection issue considering the general wealth of complaints about it, dating many years back.

My name on PSN has Istanbul in it. Most of the hate centres around that, and the belief I am therfore a Muslim. I guess it's a trigger for them. But nearly all of it will be race or religious based tripe. I'm a white Christian for the record. Shocking to see what some people have to put up with though. The rest of the abuse is from those that recognise the name as a reference to Liverpool. So I guess I'm just a magnet on all sides.

Haha, yeah, the old double whammy! Thinking about it, do the messages come through the PS4's system or one internal to the game? I have blocked all incoming messages on the PS4 which could explain the lack of abuse.

As for the connection issues, maybe I have just been lucky. I just played a few games there and had no issues again.
For the past few years I've told myself not to buy this in month 1, and stupidly have done and regretted it when it drops like a stone within weeks. Not this time... Must. Be. Strong. £25 max for me this year.
