I have a question if anyone could be so kind to answer?

I'm currently using a 7/8 year old 23" HD TV ( from PS3 days). Would using this 4K Monitor be better or should i go for a newer but standard HD TV as i have a Ps4 (standard version)?

A newer TV would be fine, although monitors tend to have better performance. I would recommmend this monitor below.

It isn't 4K but even high end gaming PCs struggle with 4K so consoles are naturally not realistically capable of a good experience, and honestly 4K gaming isn't really ready because of the tech/performance. QHD is the sweet spot, and its an IPS panel with some basic speakers if you need them too. I'd imagine future consoles will continue to support freesync too so that's another bonus.

The site says 5gtg ms.... From what I've read and know... This isn't good for competitive gaming.
Great price if you really want 4k and don't give a rat's ass about imagine quality. I've tried a few cheap 4K monitors from many brands and they all look washed out. Eventually went for a 2K ips panel. Forgot HDR, pointless on this.

Depends how much space you have imo. No benefit to have a 4k screen if you don't intend to consume 4k content. I suggest you get a nice full HD TV, as big as your space and distance from the screen will allow. Get one with good response times and refresh rates to enjoy your gaming.

Here are some links to do some research

You'll find good reviews on rtings. Not so many for 1080p tvs but should help you find a good screen for your gaming.
Another option is to upgrade to ps4 pro and get a 4k tv.
It all depends on your available space and budget. Hope that helps. M

No 'competitive gamer' would play on 60hz either lol

Well if most games on Xbox support 30-60hz, and someone wants to play multiplayer competitively then they won't need a monitor above 60hz right ....

So if this monitor with the same space was available in 1080p for the same or a similar price... You'd pick the 1080p one because who does competitive gaming in 4k... Is that what you're telling me ?

I think he meant a competitive gamer would play on a 144hz lower res display at a cheaper price.

I posted a deal for samsung nu7020. I have 43 inch and its response rate is around 15ms so one frame and not bad for immeraive gaming. As it is a tv I set it up for 50hz so can play 4k medium or 1440p ultra 50fps locked as 60 fps is sometimes harder to get on my 1070.

1080p monitors at this price tend to have vastly superior panel quality, and thus performance as a direct result. it isn't always about the quoed hz or repsonse times, but the actual numbers the monitor produces as well as image quality of course.

Budget panels like this always have their shortfalls.

No one uses 4k monitors for competitive gaming.

Fair enough. Just thought if I get a low response time 4k as opposed to low response full hd then I'd pick the former given the price similarity.

Pff, like you can tell the difference between 1 and 5ms most people can’t tell the difference between 5 and 25.....

You're probably right. I used to play on a 1080p TV but now changed to monitor and my game is a lot better.
Also HDR but it only has peak brightness of 250nits.
The proper standard HDR on TVs is 1000nits.
Might have other benefits
