I remember playing elite on the acorn electron. The hours I wasted trying to land the spaceship.
I've been waiting for this to drop in price to pick up for my son. Happy days, time to teach him about that free anaconda from Hutton!
Looks fantastic in VR. Especially when you're up close with stars.
Only problem with VR, is that on long flights you don't have anything to do in the meantime, because you have your headset on your head.

Dont forget to buy Horizon season pass for the same price, to have full experience.

nice spot... thanks
Been on the fence if I should buy this or the PS4 version. From what I've read the PC version is nicer to play, but I can't get my son off the PC to play it.

Have both and PC is a better experience in my opinion. There are GUI mods etc as well. PS4 version works just fine though and if you’re already struggling for the time on the pc go PS4 as this game becomes quite obsessive!

Butting your PC invalidates the warranty, sorry couldn't resist
Space legs add-on coming later this year too, can't wait!!

maybe you could stream the game on twitch... then you'd have something to do - interact with chat.
Space, the final frontier
So tempted, have on PS4 but anyone I know is playing PC and cross platform not there.
is this close to Descent Freespace ? I need something single player similar...

How expensive is a VR setup for this game? I think it would take over my life so naturally I’m very tempted.
Is this ok controlling ships with mouse and keyboard and/or an Xbox controller?

Is it worth getting the deluxe edition? What do you get on top?

Yes, definitely. Horizons is an expansion pack, planetary landings and a host of other stuff too. For the extra £5 it's a no brainer.

Next release due end of 2020, although I'm expecting it to be put back in mid 21 will be a other paid add on.

Can also recommend a VR headset and a joystick, can get a decent thrust master one for under £50. It's the best VR game ever made, at least until I get to plan Alyx.

I played this on the NES back in the day. It was ace!!
Bought it for Xbone to remeniss, I couldn't do a thing on it. All the buttons and dials and levers broke my brain.
Might have to try again, I soooooooooooooooo wanted to play this.

Fyi Massive old skool fans wanted a new release for ages, and were badgering and cajoling for ages for original devs to bury the hatchet, but they had a crazy 20-30 year falling out.

Super heat from me.

Never tried it. Bought it for the Rift S haha
It’s quite simple, if you have VR get this it’s amazing. Get Horizons as well so you can land on the planets

I can't wait for the next big update, being able to walk around space stations, ships, planets and combat outside of your ship in VR. I'll likely never leave the house again.
I paid £150 for this game, obviously I consider £5 a bargain! 😄 I'd second what others are saying if the expansion is an extra fiver then grab that too, that way you can land on planets amongst other things.

No, Freespace 1/2 are very mission structured and all about combat whereas Elite is about trading/mining/combat and is open world.

Freespace games are top class though, FS2 is now open source and has bucket loads of mods

I had all controls mapped to Xbox 360 controller. It can do clever things with button press combinations. You can add voice commands to the mix too with some cheap additional third party software. It’s all a bit of setting up but once you are there it’s the best sim ever created. Mad heat!
Apparently the fleet carriers beta is out next week: pcgamer.com/eli…ek/

Get Descent Freespace on GOG.com & the HD mod on ModDb.com. That's as close to Descent Freespace as you can get.

Elite: Dangerous is nothing like freespace. It's not mission driven single player. It's a vast multiplayer game with combat, exploration, trading and mining.
