This is NOT an ebook reader. LCD Colour Screen 7 –8 hours battery life. Not voted

This IS an ebook reader, doesnt have to be e-ink to be an ebook reader, you can read easily for a few hours on this thing, some people dont read books for 8 hours at a time so is sufficient for thier needs.

This also plays mp3 and video so there an extra bonus, i have seen this in action and it is pretty good, comes with a lot of classic books pre loaded and you can use in conjunction with all the top formats.

Hot for me!

I think it looks as expensive but less versatile than a similarly specified android tablet, given how many free apps (including ebook readers) are now available.

There's no mention of wifi either, so presumably you have to download the ebooks with a pc and copy them to an SD card to read them on this?

e-Ink is sooooo much better than one of these, don't be fooled into buying one.

I have one of these bought at this price before xmas. Its great ebook and video and mp3 player.
Plays avi movies and ebooks either text pdf or epub.
great bit of kit although doesnt have wi fi and battery last a max of 8 hours but easy to charge via supplied usb cable. A case for it will cost you around £20 on amazon

I bought one of these 2 months ago and it's great. So far have downloaded over 100 free books and recharge it overnight with mains charger I bought seperately

I have compared this with the Kindle and a Sony and this is truly awful, e-ink is the way to go

Well it seems the people who own these like them, its just the people who don't have them or haven't tried them are slating them. The customer reviews are very good on the Asda site & I can't see 8 hours battery life being a problem?
Anyway I've decided to give it a try. If the worst comes to the worst I can always return it to Asda.

Good for you, I admit to being prejudiced as I have a Sony and a Kindle

Good luck on a sunny day

It's a low-spec slate, not an e-reader.

Battery 8 hours? My kindle lasts 3 weeks (and new ones just over £100 last 4 weeks).

Plus it's backlit so you get glare on the beach.

Plus the Kindle also allows access to 500,00 FREE texts just like this does - the free ones are out of copyright - ALL readers can get them, just plug into the Internet. And Kindle has access to the widest range of new books - at significantly less than paperback prices.

I'm not saying this is useless - but for a few quid more, you can get an entry-level Android pad, or a latest model Kindle - so why settle for something that is neither one nor the other?

It is an e-reader, just a rubbish one. Not cheap enough compared to it's competition to even consider.

e-ink is better than this for reading

lol at e-book reader. In that case, so is my PC, laptop, ps3, psp and mp4 player.

have fun trying to read a book on one of these on the beach in full sun

I have no doubt it is for longer time reading. I have this and my 1 hour commute on the train is absolutely fine with this.

All the 'this is rubbish' from those who have never used it and have a kindle is just another example of fanboyism at play

Why would I want to read this on the beach in full sun? I do things when I am on holiday!

It is not useless in bright daylight as I use one in bright daylight. I don't use one sitting on the beach in sunshine though. I would definitely use it in the shade with my rum & coke though at the beachfront bar - - some people indeed!

Fair enough although I have never come across an LCD that is clearly visible outside in bright sunlight

Could you please post a link to where I can get a case.

Also found the reader good value as an all-rounder.

I made one out of soft padded fabric with velcro at the top

it is a n all-rounder. it does many things reasonably well, though it is true that for a few pounds more you can get an andriod slate with wifi etc and download a reader app... but those only last for 2 hours at best, so it is a personal choice.

i must say that i tried a kindle and although i do admit e-ink is great to read, when i change pages the way it does so (by disbursing and re-materialising) makes my eyes go funny and i have to look away #sad# otherwise id have joined the new kindle revolution..
