This was £129 only this morning!

Thought it was cheap!

Seems very good for the price . Having just paid £150 for the iStory , I should have waited.

Nice to see some "budget" lines hitting the market, can only help strengthen uptake. Heat added.

If you're into books please be aware that this has a LCD Colour Screen so not a proper e-reader.

If this can be called an eReader, then any notebook, netbook, tablet or anything that has an ebook reading application can be called an eReader.

actually it is an e-reader because it is allowing you to read documents/books/pdf's etc electronically. Also the fact it can read epub's and drm epub's clarifies it as an eReader and also allows you to rent books for free (potentially) from your library.

Is it the best eReader? probably not because as you mention it has an LCD screen as opposed to an eInk screen (like the Kindle/Cybook/Sony's use) so will not be great in sunlight.

But (having seen it at £99 at the Gadget Show last year) would I replace my cybook with it - no but I would suppliment it because reading comics on it in glorious colour would almost be worth it.

very hot!!!

Thanks, ordered.

I am a bit confused...

If without an internet conectvitiy, how can you get "access to website with over 1 Million FREE eBooks"???

Anyone seen any reviews of it ? Seams really good as a cheaper alternative to the kindle etc.

Surely it must have WiFi?
Are the specs anywhere?

Look like it'll make a great comic reader.

I would download from a website and transfer to a SD card , that's what I do with my iStory reader. Personally ,I wouldn't want my e-book reader to link to the net , have wi-fi nor anything like that , apart from shortening it's long battery life , I dont think any support flash ,so some sites wont work properly.

depends how well this does as a video player, 7" is just about size for video on the move, good deal if it can do video well. manufacturer page here

been looking for a colour ebook reader to handle graphic novels and comics. This MAY be what I'm looking for and a DAMN site cheaper than an Apple gizmo.

This will get hot

I like this, from the linked Asda site:

"Free delivery on orders over £25 when collecting in store (selected stores only)"

It's a shame it doesn't handle .cbr format for comics
Can anyone recommend a good, free .cbr -> .pdf converter?

I've ordered with pick up from store, should be there Saturday. will let everyone know what I think.

Just unrar the CBR and store in a folder, view the pages as photos.

can you download childrens books?

It's not a Kindle alternative because it doesn't have electronic ink. Electronic ink screens don't strain your eyes as much as lcd screens when you're reading, it's like looking at a book instead of staring closely at a television.

They Could of put Android 2.1 .... 1.6 is so old lacks functionality .. Google are bringing out Version 3 of Android made for the tablet, all versions before are a bit clunky

As been previously mentioned, I wouldnt consider this a thoroughbred ebook reader.

The kindle screen almost has to be seen to be believed (im sure its the same with all e-ink screens) and I believe the battery is excellent too. (this ones 7-8 hours sounds poor)

Im going to be that guy and say for an extra £20 you get a Orange san fransisco, Smaller screen obviously but has the same resolution. It has expandable storage (comes with 2gb though) It has wifi too, and maybe someone else can clarify, i think it can make phone calls as well :P

Android also has trouble running SD Xvid files on anything below a 1GHZ cpu. unless the device is specifically made with it in mind. This is 2 birds one stone for me I'm interested in trying an ereader and need a new media player. Still really fancy a kindle 3 though...

80 quid for an lcd screen.. and people think this is a good deal?!

also, hopefully will ensure that amazon and apple dont run away with their prices

I'm confused. Is the android one a better deal? Would I be able to download amazons kindle app and run it on there?

I want an ereader type tablet because (odd I know) the black flicker on the page change of eink screens makes me dizzy. Pity as they can't be beaten for reading books.

I wonder if this is Windows CE based?

+1

The battery life on this won't be very good because of having an lcd screen. The Amazon Kindle just cannot be beaten.

I've been after a WindowsCE based ebook/ipad type player/reader with a similar sized screen , mainly for satnav use . Most all satnav software ......igo ,tt ,miomap etc runs on WinCE5 ,so a decent sized player/reader with this OS on would be ideal . Of course , it would have to have GPS built in or Blue Tooth capabilities and I have not seen anything suitable .

I just found something that fits the bill , but more pricey and poor battery life :

The resolution on this just isn't enough for magazines and comics. As an ebook reader its really only got epub support going for it. Text isn't going to look good but I'm sure you'd get used to it. The Kindle 3 does not support epub so those huge collections of epub books floating around the web are going to have to be converted to mobi format, which may or may not end up with proper formatting.

This is as cheap as it is for a reason. All these LCD readers are going to drop sub £100 sooner rather than later. The Kindles £109 price changed their percieved worth overnight.

I'm waiting for a £100-£200 high resolution LCD tablet to use as a magazine/comic/book reader. I don't mind missing eink, I'd rather have a full colour speedy display. I've no problems reading for long periods on LCD.
