I had a pair of these from Richer Sounds. Not very good at all...... soon exchanged them.
I can't understand how they can manufacture and transport speakers this big for this kind of money. The obvious suspicion is that they use the cheapest of the cheap components.
CHEEPSTUFFRULES!

It seems you can understand (_;)
Anybody heard these units in action????
they get some ok reviews would think there better than the junk inc with some systems
I picked up the Tannoy Mercury F3 for a century, top notch! These look like total dung in comparison.
These speakers are crap, you are better off with good quality smaller bookshelf speakers.

Agreed. I bought a pair of Tannoy Mercury M2 speakers in 1996 and they still sound superb.:3
i was talked into giving an eltax surround set up a try by staff at richer sounds a few years ago
"you might be surprised at what your getting for your money" they said, needless to say i wasnt
and they didnt seem too shocked when i took them back .
if you want floor standers on budget look second hand ive noticed a few knocking about in my local rags that would put these to shame for the same sort of money , a lot of people with cracking old systems updating to bose docks etc i would imagine
When it comes to speakers you get what you pay for,and in this case not much.Lets face it Eltax are the pits
can anyone recommend good floorstanding speakers that i can use without connecting to a amp, just want a 2.0 setup with my tv, for under a £100?

Thanks
I have Eltax Liberty 5+ floorstanders and they are very very good through a bog standard CD transport into Beresford 7520 DAC with stock Opamp swapout. Then through Denon PMA 250II.

They are a very good speaker manufacturer IMHO and when sand filled the speakers are great. Controlled bass, sweet middle and zingy tops. Saying Eltax 'are the pits' is a little harsh
I've listened to a pair of these in action and they're just about ok for this price.

The weird thing is that for such large speakers, they produce quite a 'small' sound which is lacking in bass definition and mid range punch.

I'll stick with my vintage Bowers and Wilkins DM2s
COLD - they've sold these for £40 for the last 5 or 6 years.

You'd have to buy active floorstanders, which you wont get for that price. Just buy a T-amp for £20 and some high SPR speakers second hand - done for 50 quid.

Or get some good computer speakers, Creative T20's are very impressive.

Either way you wont get good sound direct from your TV!
chip out the extra £30 and get the tannoy custom F3s (with the £10 discount). I bought them last week and they seem to be worth the money. obv there are better speakers out there but they are pretty decent for my first go at a decent setup

In my experience Eltax is a piece of *bleep*, whatever the size. And that makes them overpriced in my book.
these eltax's were voted best floorstanding speakers manufactured by eltax for 2 years running

I have Eltax Liberty 5+ floorstanders .... zingy tops.

Zingy tops, no thanks.
Theres alot of snobbery in the Hi-Fi world. Eltax have allways been a mid range budget manufacturer and have produced some very decent speakers. For the quality of sound per £ of investment its probably hard to beat them.

When you start getting into more expensive equipment you generaly expect better sound however your entering the realms of diminishing returns.
el tax = ex lax of lo fi, lowered into the bog bowl, richers on serious kickbax from de exlax

wise up stop waiting for actives get a twenny knicker aaaamp offa gumtree and grab those f3's while you still can...or be like i was about missing the f4 dealio a few years back. DO IT!!!!!!!
I went from a pair of Eltax floor standers to some Bowers & Wilkins 804's. The Eltax speakers cost me about a £100 4 years ago. These B&Ws cost 50x as much, but dont sound anywhere near 50x better. The Eltax were cheap, budget speakers, but the price to performance ratio is unmatched.

They do need a powerful amp to be driven properly though.
Personally spend another £20 and get some secound hand mission m30 speakers or equivilant off ebay or if your lucky floorstanders (m33i). MK365's got the right idea though, and ohnestly if you havn't listened to anything better, ignorance is bliss.

I had some cheap tack wharfedale sp-85's and upgraded to B&W dm603's I couldnt go back now, but at the time I thought the sp-85's sounded lush.

This. I've got all sorts of bits and bobs (Mission Floorstanders and Bipolar rears), but I really love my Eltax Centre speaker. The Mission equivalent just wasn't as good. In fact, I loved it so much, I bought a second one for another smaller setup I had.

Anyway, back to the OP, it would cost more than this just to manufacture something that sounded half decent and these are unfortunately going to be on the very bottom of the pile.

As someone above suggested, either look at a pair of Bookshelf speakers or some second hand missions. If you don't think Bookshelf speakers aren't up to much, pop down your local Sevenoaks store and listen to a pair of B&Ws or Quads or similar.

Everybody dishes out the negative comments, but they don't offer an alternative in the same price range. Of course they are not going to beat the better makes.... but pound for pound they are decent. As for the cost of components.... It just shows how much the 'sobs' are being ripped off...
Buy some 2nd hand speakers.

B&W 603s etc.

Or some 'better' old speakers. Matrix 805(s) are getting vvv cheap now.
i had B&W 603's... great speakers,... like wow - again for the price... wow!! BUT..... you need a much better amp and power amp and better CD player to hear the difference.... hence making your spending a whole lot more...

for people on a budget.. these are just fine.... for about £150 (including these speakers you can have a setup that will beat midi hifis etc..... so IMHO they aint too shabby!!!
excellent ive been looking for some speakers to hook up to an amp I inherited, It's a lynn or something like me mums name. Would be nice just to have something a bit better than regular tv speakers.
Not very good speakers
