Store specific?

If not, this is a roasting hot price for a modest web browsing/office/school work machine.

:edit:

FYI

The AMD V140 is on a par with, or perhaps a little better, than the Intel Celeron 900.
The more significant benefit is that the AMD V140 will be paired with an AMD GPU (in this case the Radeon HD 4250), which is FAR superior to the Intel GMA 4500M typically paired with Celery models.

Agreed, can't go wrong at that price. Good find.

Because its an instore deal.

This is blazing for a 15'6 laptop

good deal

I expect this deal to get very hot; it's a better spec. machine than the recent Morrisons Emachine deal, slightly cheaper, and most importantly there is far more stock available.

Good find OP you've helped me help a family friend!

:edit:

Confirmed - this machine comes with 64bit Windows 7 too.

Great deal! Going to get one for my mum tomorrow. Got a choice of Asda and Asda Living, so hoping I'll find one in stock.

Heat!

are the above specs correct for this laptop? it states above 250gb hard drive whereas it only has 160

Would it be possible to upgrade the battery and if so how much?

richey4real

Would it be possible to upgrade the battery and if so how much?

While hunting through the eMachines website I found this:

eme442 more detailed specification.

Nothing particularly groundbreaking in there, but it does list 2 different battery configurations:

42 W 2800 mAh 4-cell Li-ion battery pack with 2.5-hour battery life48 W … 42 W 2800 mAh 4-cell Li-ion battery pack with 2.5-hour battery life48 W 4400 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack with 3.7-hour battery life

So replacing the battery with the larger 6-cell will be possible... if you can find the part number.
Ok, found the battery you'd want.
Obviously you won't want to buy direct from eMachines, so I guess the more valuable info is the part number: ( AK.006BT.080 )

Other interesting info on that page:

# VGA port up to 2456 x 1536: 60 Hz# HDMI™ port up to 1920 x 1080: 60 H … # VGA port up to 2456 x 1536: 60 Hz# HDMI™ port up to 1920 x 1080: 60 HzDual independent display support

Which I guess to mean you can use both the HDMI & VGA outputs simultaneously.

Hard Drive, 160, 250, 320, 500, 640 or 750 GB hard disk drive

So the 160GB HDD included in this model is a valid 'standard' configuration.

Up to 4 GB of dual-channel DDR3 667 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB using … Up to 4 GB of dual-channel DDR3 667 MHz memory, upgradeable to 8 GB using two soDIMM modules

Interesting, and an indicator that the motherboard isn't a cheapo pile of crap.
Though I can't imagine why anyone would want 8GB of ram with such a slow processor

The compatible batteries list for what I think is the correct battery:

Aspire 4252, Aspire 4333, Aspire 4551, Aspire 4552, Aspire 4733Z, Aspire … Aspire 4252, Aspire 4333, Aspire 4551, Aspire 4552, Aspire 4733Z, Aspire 4738,Aspire 4738Z, Aspire 4741, Aspire 5251, Aspire 5252, Aspire 5336, Aspire 5551,Aspire 5551G, Aspire 5552, Aspire 5736Z, Aspire 5741, Aspire 5741G, Aspire 5741Z,Aspire 5742, Aspire 5742G, Aspire 5742Z, Aspire 7551, Aspire 7551G, Aspire 7552G,Aspire 7741, Aspire 7741G, Aspire 7741Z, D442, D528, E440,E442, NV53, NV53A, NV55C, NV59C, NV73A,NV79, NV79C, TravelMate 4740, TravelMate 5542, TravelMate 5740, TravelMate 5740G,TravelMate 5742, TravelMate 5742Z, TravelMate 7740

Using the above list i've found that the replacement battery part "AS10D51" (6-cell, 10.8V, 4400mAh) should be compatible with this laptop. However I might be mistaken, and I don't have the laptop infront of me to confirm.

Great price for a brand new laptop, even if the specs aint the greatest.
For that price cant go wrong.

does this have 5.1 inbuilt, so 3 jacks?

qg2

does this have 5.1 inbuilt, so 3 jacks?

Only a stereo speaker jack so no support for analogue 5.1 output.

However the AMD m880g chipset supports 5.1 digital surround sound through the hdmi port.

note that this does not have a web cam, i know for some people that it is not important but i know a lot of people, myself included use skype and other similar video messaging services .

But amazing price for this laptop, wife wants webcam and something prettier :\

good deal, have 2 more degrees

Just called them and non in stock around Coventry

I've just phoned 4 stores local to me in the midlands,3 didn't have any and the one that did said it scanned at £267 so this may only be in certain stores. It was an Asda living, and one of the oos stores I called was a living and quoted the same price so that may make a difference.

Loads left at Colchester Asda at 10 am this morning

None in Park Royal or Hounslow.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

scans at £260 at mine told it was store Pacific (_;)

Managed to get one. Will check it out and see if it meets my requirements.

I'm guessing there's a 28 day return on this?

Just been to our store at barrow in furness and it scans at £267

VERY tempting to connect to my bedroom tele with the HDMI output! Internet streaming, 'taping' programs (I have a usb digital tele gadget), you-tubing, BBC iplayer - just stick a wireless keyboard / mouse on it and you can operate it from your bed!

Scanned at £267 at my local Asda!!
Edited by: "madjid" 23rd Jan 2011

None in asda aintree liverpool

£267 at my local branch.

Told them why it was different prices for different branches and was told that they vary from store to store and the price is specific to the store so this deal is definitely NOT nationwide.

yet again big supermarkets offering specific deals in ceartin places to draw everyone in there to just spend....

Anyone tried Asda Pilsworth?

Thought Asda did a price match, Was advertised on Tv. some woman with a reciept saying how easy it was.

Went to Blackpool Asda this morning £267 got some cheap toilet rolls though (_;)
