Not til next Monday (23rd Feb), mind!

Yeah, yeah, so what, its a hammer, but for less than three and a half quid its a bit of peace of mind - nasty to think of, but what if you're unconcious in your car following an accident and the kids cant get out of the back because you're in the way? This little hammer can live in the seat back pocket and instantly smash a side window for anyone in the back to get out (or you too, if your door is caved in!).

One of those things you want to own and never use, but imagine wanting to use but not own!

These are great, and this price is good, too (I think they normally retail for about £10 at places like Halfords)

Best place to keep it, IMO, is in the 'central CD and cup holder area' between the front seats, if you have one - that way it is accessible by anyone in the event of a crash.

Good spot OP

good find

Good price but I could have a field day with the blurb

"what if you're unconcious in your car following an accident and the kids cant get out "
- will my 3 year old be able to break a window with this then?
- If so whats to stop them doing it for fun? (they hit there toys against the windows after all)

That said, if you have a tyre guage you may as well have this.

Well, yer pays yer money... Maybe I'm just paranoid (who, me?) but I _hate_ travelling in the back of a two-door car, and I'd much prefer my kids to break a window 'for fun' when they _dont_ need to than to _not_ break a window when they _do_...

shame all my local stores dont seem to have these coming in

Ummmm, have you ever tried to break a car window with a coin??!

love the bit about being able to get out if your door is caved in! I'd expect the window would have smashed to bits. Same goes for any other serious accident. The glass is the first to go.

lol...err..yeah. which is why i put it in. you just hold the coin in your hand and punch the window. you wont damage your hand.

most people keep allsorts in that front compartment. even a incar nokia charger, point the pointy bit and jam it in the window. the glass is made to shatter. its tough, but not that tough.

and csiman has an extremely good point, the glass is always the first to go. so bit of a pointless buy really.

Why not smash the window using / holding a small child ;-) . Hot for the price

this will do the trick -

Left loose (for example in the front console!) this is more likely to kill in an accident than to save someone's life. Don't leave anything loose in a car, especially something that can become a heavy bullet in case of accident.

If only I had one of these last week when I really needed it.

I knew someone who was trying to escape a flooding area in her car...she suddenly caught up in rushing water, which got high enough that she couldn't open the doors and it shorted out the battery, so the electric windows wouldn't open. They were in a serious panic and thankfully were rescued, but had been unable to open or break the windows. It's a rare case, I know, but you can't say one of these tools would never come in handy. The question is, will it break a window quickly and easily, even by someone without much strength (like a child)?

Hey, thats AFTER six months and a horrifying amount of money has gone in...

Why not just have a screwdriver in the car. Place between the glass and door frame and twist.

And - if a cars airbag(s) deploy, the central locking has to open. If the door is jammed because the door assembly is stuck in the frame, then chances are that tool is going to be of no use.

The Hoodies tool of choice...........We were only checking the tyre pressure officer!!

Breaking the windows for fun would be the least of my worries, my little ones would be using the hammer on each other! I can also guarentee that when the 'trapped in the back' accident did occur, recovering the hammer from one of their secret hiding places would take forever!

Heat added as a cheap tyre guage.

LOL:whistling:

Good deal, voted hot. Instead of a hammer/tyre gauge, I'd rather have a hammer/seat belt cutter, like this:
amazon.co.uk/Sil…1-1
By sheer coincidence, mine arrived today. I'm well pleased with it.

lol, whut?

How does a coin magically protect you from severing most of the arteries in your hand should the urge overcome you to shatter a window with your hand?

or... just wait for the water to completely fill the car then hold your breath and open the door easily as the pressure has equalled on both sides. That's assuming the door is undamaged but if it's not, the window has probably been smashed anyway.

You wont say that when replacing the rear window for the second time

as I say good deal, but questionable item.

As for being paranoid... you should be

To all the haters (doubters) have a look at this:

]Taxi driver plunges into icy pond to save woman trapped in sinking car.

In summary; "He flagged down a passing driver who had a hammer in his car. He grabbed the tool and went back into the water to smash the half-submerged vehicle's window and pull out the terrified 18-year-old".

Can never be too careful, after reading that article I made a mental note to dig out my automatic counter punch and keep it in the car.

no no no no. you're getting it all wrong. the coin must be from Powerland. The currency is power. You need 10 Powerz to break the window. Dont leave too much power lying around though. the consequences are dire.

If I keep some C4 in the car I'll deffo be able to get out :whistling:

Great, so in an emergency you can break the window and then check your tyres are inflated!
