Cracking deal. Will be taken to Rock Ness and T in the Park.

Such a good deal that people vote it cold
I warmed it up a bit. There must be a way to filter out the perennial cold voters and ban their butts. They spoil the site.

Yip - these are a regular in poundland (minus the torch possibly). No way is it worth £4.99

Never seen this single AA battery type in poundland, they usually need 3 or so batteries in. This has a special circuit in to crank up the 1.5v to 5v or so for phone charging.
Dealextreme do a similar thing (no mention of a torch) delivered for less than £3.
dealextreme.com/det…880

Only thing is you won't get much charge out of a single AA battery and it's not compatible with some devices (certain pocket PCs etc.).

ive used a similar one, didnt work

a fresh AA batt charged for a few mins and provided F all, nice idea, but i dont think the product works

The awful headache-inducing site design?

I got one of the cheapo ones.. never had any of the 2nd generation chargers on it.

can I suggest that people just visit www.dealextreme.com and just buy another battery for their phone for less than a fiver? I know the batteries aren't as good as the genuine ones that come with phones, but they are still better than 1.5 hours talktime from an AA battery.

ASDA have a similar product which uses AAA batteries for £2

I took one of those emergency ones to the v fest last year it took all day to charge batteries in it died and i got about 10mins talk time really not worth the money like someone else said just buy a spare battery

I have to agree with you there! fantastic site for money saving info but the layout and site design is a disaster!

Maplin do the Camelion battery for £4.99

See camelionbattery.com

You get a set of charging cable tips for various phones, a small tie up bag to carry it in, the camelion battery which takes any 1.5V or 1.2V AA battery to give a regulated 5V output and also includes a torch, and finally a disposable Alkaline battery.

It's exactly the same set as the one on Play.com but you also get a small bag, and the camelion is white - so you now have a white and a black option for your peripherals.

The do work btw - I'm using mine as a portable USB power injector for my PDA.

I haven't got a poundshop where I live. I can be sure that the quality of this product is better than stuff from a poundshop too.

I get 3xAA powered ones from www.m-99.co.uk - usually less than a fiver delivered and have lasted whole festivals charging every night.

this product is no good :-(

Why would you keep this in your glovebox when you can keep a car charger in there instead?!

lol, was exactly what I was just thinking!

Have to agree with some other comments, by the time you flaff about with one of these, better to buy a cheap second battery.

Tesco have them also.. about £5.. but a lot of there branded phone items keep going down in price.. i did buy one when it went to £3.50.. and they do work. Good if you hav,nt got a car or a mains plug handy... like camping, or on a beach.. etc. And just use the , re-chargable batt.. cost nowt then.mart

Yes, i got one exactly like this from the pound shop so voted COLD

How can you be sure? Have you had one from both places?

I've got one from poundshop that works very well, its solid, well built and reliable, hard to see how this one could be better quality for the money.

Just so we can be clear on this, has anyone bought a charger like this one which uses a single AA battery from Poundshop? I'd be interested in checking one out but can't be bothered to wait a couple of weeks to get it delivered from China. I know there are many chargers which use three or so batteries but the single AA ones are of interest because I normally carry a couple of AAs around for my camera.

I'd also ask, does the one from the £1 shop have all the adaptors with it? If not, then it's apples and oranges.

I've tried a couple of these emergency chargers in the past, one from poundland and the other from a newsagent (cost about a fiver). Both times it was an emergency and I needed to use my mobile to get a number to call...and both times despite the multitude of connectors provided they didnt fit my phone.
It was a year or so apart and it was different models of phones, so now when I buy a new phone I just make sure I buy an extra battery , charge it and keep it in my wallet. Most mobile batteries can be picked up for about a fiver anyway (ebay, deal extreme etc), obviously not the offiicial ones but when you only use it in an emergency it comes in handy and lasts a lot longer than the 10 to 90mins these emergency chargers (claim to) last.

Received today, it charged my N95 fine. Also has an LED light on it. Very pleased with it for just £5.
