Wikipedia was likened by the boss of Britannica as being the encyclopeadic equivalent of a public toilet. What a load of nonsense, I imaigine he saw Britannica sales fall dramatically once the Internet took off. My parents bought it - theyd never have done it if they'd had the Internet! Wikipedia is superb, constantly updated and free.

... I was refering to the implication that you could just download Encarta from the internet.

Personally I would rather my kids used an encyclopedia, be it on the computer or in book form, to look things up until they are a bit older and better able to sort the wheat from the chaff. If I am sitting down with them I don't mind helping them use the internet as a resource, but not unsupervised.

Yeah, thats understandable

Toatally agree. Yes it's all there on the internet but the skill in finding what you want has to be developed over time. Ideal resource for kids.

This was £20 in PC world so 1/2 price. thanks:-D

Good spot, ideal safe zone for the younger ones! Does Encarta still have Mindmaze on it? The 1994 version rocked and made the rare PCs at school with CD-ROM drives extremely popular
