I want one... They can also sharpen kitchen knives. Wish I had the space...

The fine wheel on this is not what you want to use in your expensive kitchen knives.

But for your cheap ones it's ideal.
worth 18 quid for the motor and switches alone! great deal.
excellent deal.

paid £28 for it from b&q, and its already paid for itself.
Is this like the grinder app to find like minded adults who prefer workshop fun? :-)

But it's only £19.99 full price so still worth 18 quid for those alone
good deal
Picked one up this morning- thanks op
How would one use this to sharpen chisels? Some people say it has to be in reverse but why?
Folks, has anybody replaced the grinding disc with a polishing disc on these - is it easy to do?
Fishleg, this is a off hand grinder. It won't 'sharpen' knives or woodworking chisels. It will grind them to the correct profile ready for sharpening. You are thinking of one of the sharpening systems(eg Tormek) with a hard leather stop. These will sharpen chisels and knives and have to run in reverse to avoid dig in.

I have one of these and have sharpened loads of chisels, blunted screwdrivers and sharpened the lawnmower blade and have never used it in reverse.
The key to using this properly is not to apply too much pressure between wheel and steel ( let the grinder do the work gently & slowly ) i also have a habit of standing side on and not in front and obviously following the profile of the blade on the tool - safety glasses are a must as these grinders generate more sparks then guy fawkes and you only get one pair of eyes!! oO

You don't need a grinder to sharpen a chisel unless you've taken a chip out of the edge. If it's just blunt, an oilstone or a diamond sharpening stone will put a good sharp edge back on it. A lot easier as well if you've never used a grinder before.
Good for drill bits with some oil to temper
any good for doing tungstons?
Can the wheels be water-cooled?

Can the wheels be water-cooled?

No! - " Do not use any tool attachments that require liquid coolants. Use of water or
other liquid coolants can result in electric shock." (From instruction manual on Screwfix Site)
