Great reviews on Amazon (11/11 people give it 5 stars). If you look at More Buying Choices, Zoozio TV are selling them for £4.67 delivered.

Product Details:

The eon TV Power-down energy saving socket saves you money by automatically cutting off standby consumption by slave electric devices like set-top boxes, DVD players/recorders, speakers/amplifiers etc. once your TV has been switched off. Unlike other energy saving plug extension leads where you must set up a timer or a separate remote control, all you do is to use your TV remote control to switch it off normally, then everything else connected to the slave socket will be switched off automatically ~ 2 min later.

The eon TV power-down has three UK standard sockets, one for the master (your TV), one permanent on for device you want it to be on permanently such as Sky, and one Slave for all peripheral devices. Got more than one peripheral? just connect a socket extension (not supplied).

The eon Powerdown power saving socket easily pays for itself in around 6 months from the energy it saved. Furthermore research suggests that leaving electrical equipment on standby can reduce its lifespan by an average of 15% and creates a needless fire risk.

OneClick technologies have spent several years developing the world's first patented intelligent plug designed to work automatically and boasts a lifespan of at least 15 years. Tested to British Standards, RoHS compliant and recommended by the Energy Saving Trust the IntelliPlug'sTM green credentials, integrity and reliability are endorsed by independently qualified technicians.

Product Highlights:

Auto-calibration system will only switch your boxes on/off when appropriate. At the right time, every time.

Connect a multi-socket extension

TV PowerDown uses approximately 0.5 watts.

Total Maximum Power 13 amps, built in surge protection.

Permanent On Socket - The dedicated socket is designed specifically for any box that requires permanent power such as Sky.

Saves an average 11 watts.

Works with standard TV remote.

Perhaps it is still available to EON customers. I can't find any information on it and they're selling it on their site for £5 (not sure that includes delivery though). Perhaps a good deal for non-EON customers then if they're still giving them away for free.

Surely user's want their DVR/PVR to be power when the TV is off so it records show's why they are out

Which is exactly what any normal socket will do.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at here. You're right, a normal socket is permanently on. However, with this plug there's one socket on the plug that is permanently on, so you can attach your DVR/PVR/Sky box, etc so that it's never turned off. The other socket can be used to connect an extension (or not if you're only attaching one device) and this socket can be turned off by your TV remote so that any device attached to it will be turned off (as opposed to staying in standby mode). A normal socket doesn't have the power-down option.

I bought several of these from Homebase last year when they were selling them for £1 and gave them to everyone in my family. Mine stopped working a couple of months ago and I kept meaning to replace it and more than happy to at this price - everyone else's still going strong. Excellent for anyone who can't reach their sockets easily for whatever reason (hidden behind furniture, disabled etc) and no need for an extra remote as it works using the TV remote. I plugged an individually switched extension into the always on socket so that I could have the option of only turning on the wii etc when needed.

FreeviewHD+ plugged into permanently on, tv plugged into control, and all the consoles plugged into slave so they go off when the tv does, as all the consoles PSU are on even when the consoles are off.

expired - however only £4 on ebay

Zoozio are still selling them for £4.67. However, if they're cheaper on EBay then it's a no brainer.
