Here comes the ESLB debate again................

Some like them some hate them, others really hate them, before anyone starts can we just leave it....please?

havnt these got bad stuff inside them ?

I believe they have small amounts of mercury inside them but its not really an issue. You will need to take them to either the recycling or waste disposal place to get rid of them though. The amount of mercury is minscule but its best to handle with care just to be on the safe side.

they are really good i had some few months ago from morrisons they was 5 for 50p.good find thanx.

Is there a limit per customer as our offices has about 50 bulbs around the place would save us a fortune

I like them, but have been hearing some dodgy health issues about them.

Are these really like 100W bulbs, because the ones I have had before are so dull, and I like bright lights... whats the 150W equ?

Difficult to find the ones giving bright white light as against standard pale gloomy yellow ones

Personally, I think the equivalent to 60W bulbs are closer to 40W, equivalent to 100W to closer to 60W etc.

It's not just about the mercury. Apparently the quality of the light is very poor. New technology LED will be available soon.Surely we all have enough of these to last us till then.

i have a 40W one in my bedroom and find this funny as i have actualy had jto just turn it off to sit in the dark as it was making a buzzing noise. and also they are dull and a 20W ESLB is equivalent to about 1W standard light bulb, ESLB's realy are sh*t!

They do emit ultra violet light -

news.bbc.co.uk/1/h…stm

[COLOR="Red"]The Health Protection Agency (HPA) cautions against being closer than 30cm (1ft) to some compact fluorescent (cfl) bulbs for long.

But it added there is no evidence that such bulbs pose a cancer threat.

Enclosed CFL lights - where the coil is covered like a traditional bulb - are safer, it advised.

According to this site there's about 4mg of mercury in a cfl lamp reuk.co.uk/Tox…htm basically don't break 'em and don't dispose of them with your normal rubbish.

These are ugly and give a diabolical light.
I have over 200 lamps/bulbs in my house, not one of them energy efficient.
Find me a manufacturer who supplies a g9 40w mains halogen eelb, or a g4 12v 10w, or a gu10 50w etc.
I will never use these as i would have to buy new fittings for every room!

Try buying a better brand then. They do differ in quality.

As regards your GU10's try these instead. amazon.co.uk/LED…DIO

Certainly not @ HALF PRICE £3.99 per bulb, i get them for 15p each presently.
Also, you only need 1 of the 18 led's to burn out which it will inevitably do within 12 months to ruin the look and light emission of this lamp. total waste of money don't be sucked in by the marketing men "lasts 10 years, blah blah!"

Out of interest how many Watts is your lighting in total?

I brought loads of these from tesco a few months back, definitely don't last 10 years, i've had at least half of them stop working and just turn on and off.

Actually, LED's will last around that. What on earth is your 'as they inevitably do' nonsense based on? You stick with your 100 year old tech though. You'll struggle to buy them in a couple of years....

1 LED 'burning out' shows you don't understand how these work, and even if one did fail, you'd not even notice in a small bulb like this. Unless of course you're just trolling the thread.

There are 26W bulbs that are the equivalent of 150W, but I've never seen them anywhere. I got a stash of 100W bulbs before Tesco etc stopped selling them so I don't have to worry about saving the planet yet.

I believe his house will be about 100 Uberwatts. The neighbours must wonder why their own lights dim when he gets home and switches on.

Actually apparently if you ever broke one you must evacuate the room for 15 mins.
Just make sure that you are not going to wreck a whole shelf load then :P

Anyone heard about these new daylight/organic light bulbs, do they exist and where to get em from?

Mercury is found in many things from themometers, barometers, tuna fish and lots more...............and it has never done me any harm and i have come into contact with liquid mercury many times, although on a hot day my height increases from 5'6" to 6'4"

Got some of these a while ago, they work a treat, great find.

If you search around you can find them at cheaper prices.

Not a fan of these bulbs, had one in my bedroom for perhaps 4-5 years and it ****** me off every night (but was too lazy to go out and buy a new one). One day my local supermarket started stocking bulbs so I looked for the normal old types and could not find any. Instead I ended up getting one of the ones that ****** me off so long but at a higher wattage.

WOW what a difference. Very bright, the old one was very dim and rubbish but the new one is great.

Great price at 10 pence for two. Think I paid about £1.70 for the one.

Didn't these used to be about £10 each? Why has the price come down SO much - I know how the price decreases as the "new tech" catches on, but this is ridiculous.......
