Reviews suggest it pretty close

The problem with cheap lithium ion batteries is that they work great for a a few months then they start to noticeably degrade, they are essentially cheap laptop batteries (18650 cells), but after around 10 or 20 charge/discharge cycles they wont hold their charge so well at all. I am assuming this uses low grade cells due to the price of the item.

Why not buy one and try it!!

some of the reviews estimate it as 2500mAh, i would avoid. it has probably got two old nokia batteries and lots of bags of sand in it to make it heavier.

The reviews on amazon seem quite honest and don't suggest that these are full of sand

Why don't you buy one and report back in 6 months time, I did as you suggest in the past with a well reviewed battery like this one, it was raved about as being a hot deal and for a few months it was great, in that time I might have even left a positive review. If this thing is made up of 8 cells then you are getting a lot for little money, so something has to give. what I'm saying is its not made from cells that are anywhere close to the quality you would find in say a Think Pad battery. You get what you pay for.

I have bought one!!! Think you are being overly cynical though there are already reviews out there that suggest the product does a reasonable job. If you took your stance you would never buy any cheap battery and that's not right.

I got one of these a while ago off groupon or similar app for ten pound. Not sure exactly which app but after a few uses it barely holds a charge and at the moment it takes about two days to charge fully then only charges my iPhone for 30mins!! Be good if you plan on using it once or twice and will be in a field with no power access and don't mind carrying a brick around! I got stopped by the police once as they wondered what the hell it was - big black flashing brick with wires hanging out, wasn't fun lol

Excellent to hear, I hope it lasts well. I've found my own solution - buy quality cells and put them in a housing that is designed for them.

these just look cheap

Good for you!!!

Just because you can afford to do that doesn't mean all other products are not value for money.

You seem to have been hurt real bad!!!

Your solution is indeed a good solution.
But what are good quality cells, and where would you get the appropriate housing?

what the old saying, if it seems too good to be true...

Stick to Anker best battery packs you can buy

I agree but not everyone has "Loads of money"

From what I've seen of the batteries used by manufactures of batteries for E-Bikes for example they tent to talk about 18650 Samsung cells being very good, however there are more branded 18650 batteries appearing all the time, my personal solution is to rip apart old laptop batteries and see which cells are any good (I have a free supply). My latest purchase allows me to power bike lights and charge my phone.. ebay.co.uk/itm…599 how well this works is yet to be seen. All I'm saying is that you tend to get what you pay for. Many cells for a low price suggest you might be getting an item that could degrade quicker.
