GAK will price match - arguably a better supplier than DV

Use GAK & Thomann usually for my drum gear but didn't realise GAK price matched. Stored for future reference. Cheers

Bargain starter kit.

I do like Thomann. They do drum gear by a company called Millenium. I've bought a rack & quite a bit of other hardware & the stuff is comparative to my Gibraltar gear for, in many cases, a third of the price. Not sure what Thomann are like for 4 & 6 strings tho.

The Les Paul Special II is a bit of a hit n miss guitar...on the whole they are poor, although you may get one thats been put together well and with a good set up may be acceptable.

Personally i would go with a Yamaha Pacifica if i was a beginner starting out...much better materials and better put together.

Dont make the mistake of getting this set just because you like Slash.

Already got 2 Yamaha guitars don't think I dear buy another one just now!

You can always rely on some one to recommend buying a Pacifica when a guitar deal is posted! But yes, good advice.

They have a good range of stuff and very keen prices, usually better than over here. I've bought basses from them before I found that GAK price match and use GAK purely for speed of delivery now.

Almost posted this the other day but didn't in case it went out of stock before id made up my mind about getting it. Have the cherry burst one already and it's a good guitar, nice sound :-).

I almost made this mistake a few months ago, but I ended up getting a used Pacifica 112V for 150 quid.

Agreed! I started out with saving my paper round money for what felt like eternity and ended up getting a Pacifica - for the price, sound, pickup and quality, you can't go wrong. Definitely the best 'first guitar' for under 100 of her majesty's finest bog rolls.

I now have a heavily customised Pacifica which hangs on the wall and rarely gets any love :-(

Last Christmas, I treated myself to a Gibson SG, which I have admired for quite a few years. I'd probably pick the Epiphone SG over this for the money though - nice, heavy sound and a hell of a lot cheaper too (around 130 for the Epiphone last I checked). In saying that....this is still a hot deal!

+1 from a guitar teacher that doesn't own a Yamaha but know how much better they are for similar money

For the record I play PRS electrics and Taylor acoustics

And price has gone up to £229 now :(.

Ok, question for those suggesting the Yamaha Pacifica, which one? The 112J or the 012?

I second that, the Yamaha was my first guitar, and it's still going well, fantastic build quality and delicious tones, much better value for money in my opinion. The high end Les Pauls are great, but this one I reckon is just selling on the brand name rather than actual guitar quality

You'll have to try each one out to know which one suits you better. But you can't really go wrong with either one. I would order the cheaper one (or you might prefer the one you think is better looking?), they're quite similar, the sound and playing style won't vary that much

I prefer the blue one the 112J and it is cheaper so helps. Although the 012 in red is really nice as well.
At the minute I have an Aria STG 003 which I got off Gumtree and almost got a Fender Squier Strat pack the other day for £170 but, decided against it and we got the Les Paul Special II for £130 instead, for me and my partner to both play. Partner already has an Epiphone SG also a Gumtree bargain. Just been playing hers and the Les Paul, we're going to take the LP back anyway as has a chip out of the fretboard and only bought it last week but, playing the two one after the other, the SG sounds so much nicer, so I think we'll have to get store credit (wish they did refunds or sold the Yamaha, they dont :(). At the minute I cant compare mine as I'm awaiting new strings which will turn up tomorrow.
Probably reason enough to not buy another guitar yet

Good beginners pack. I play Hagstrom.

Price gone back up, so no longer hot

why is this still live? it's not the same price as posted.

The 112j will be a the better model. I use an RGX 420 which smashes everything for the price.
I also have a jap Squier Strat which gives the USA strats a run for their money - a £25 classifieds bargain by someone who didn't know what they had and just wanted rid.

Yeah ok, and I'll even throw in my mint Silver Series Jazz Bass too

Original Poster

The guitar arrived yesterday, and I'm really happy with it. It looks incredible, I almost feel bad playing it. For a whole until now I've been playing my older brother's 1995 Gibson Les Paul Standard, and this isn't as good as that, but for the price I paid I'm not complaining, I'm happy I have one to call my own

Also, it sucks that they put the price up

You can get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard in ebony for about £230 delivered and a Marshall practice amp for about £50.

Yes it's more, but a much better guitar overall.

a Vintage V100 would be a better buy, superb build and decent stock Wilkinson pickups. Absolutely brilliant for the price

That is nice! I was looking at the Vintage VS6 SG the other day which is seemingly almost as good, as someone had it listed for £100. Very tempted!
