That appears to be pure pharmaceutical standard Epsom Salt, so also suitable for gardening use, and much cheaper than from a gardening centre.

if you want the bigger bag it works out 50p more but just more convenient

dolphinfitness.co.uk/en/…439

they also stock other variants too :-)

Thanks Matthew, good price.

Usually around £2.50 but I have seen it as high as £4.99!

Ordered.

Convenient pack size, but if you use this regularly and in quantity (eg. in strong solution for baths to raise Magnesium levels - see mgwater.com/tra…tml) it can be obtained for half that price £1 per Kg (£10 for 10kg) on ebay delivered to your door.

Intrigued to know if this really works? We haven't got a bath (just a steam shower cabinet that only has a quite shallow tub that's barely large enough for a child to bathe in) So would this same principle work by just soaking the feet in a foot spa/bowl, or does it have to be a whole body immersion?

I bought some Magnesium supplements recently from Boots to take injunction with Vit D3 but I read soon after that it was only the Magnesium Oxide variety which isn't very efficient in absorption and can cause well, let's just say it can cause some unsightly side effects which really put me off taking them.

Good price thanks
Better than my 4kg bag for £9.99 although that was delivered from Amazon, long wait as usual though.

As to raising your levels you could use a large amount or reheat the water and sit longer with your feet in the basin or do it everyday or more etc etc

I use it in a basin and its good mixed with a little Scholl Velvet Smooth Foot-Bath Relax , for my swollen feet.

Oh good, I'll give it a try. When you say "use a large amount" ? How much is large? I've never used this before as you can probably tell. Thanks for the reply by the way, I appreciate it.

*Also, to the OP. I already gave heat earlier, but thanks for the deal.

Id ask a chemist or doctor to be sure but your not consuming it so common sense should be ok. Id keep upping the amount until you notice its causing any hurting or you cannot dilute the salt anymore.

But if you want to you could try on small scale , a measured amount of water to see how much you can dilute in boiling water to get the maximum salt in.Put some on your skin when cooled, if it doesn't do anything after 30 mins id use maximum amount you can dilute into water. You could also use a cloth/sponge to coat your body as well in the shower etc

Use boiling water then leave to cool down dont add cold water as that will dilute it. I use a lot in a basin but not sure exactly how much , at least 3 times as much as it says.

As your only putting your feet in it you could reheat it and use it again and again use an old pot or try the micro, not sure if it would spark in the micro though?

Id use fresh for your body though.

No problem i like to solve problems and have a love of biology.
After all people swim/float in the dead sea and does them no harm.

How do you know what your levels are, a blood test?

I see, thanks. I'll have a little experiment with different quantities and see how it goes.

Oh no. I haven't had any tests, but know I'm definitely deficient in Vitamin D and taking that supposedly reduces your Magnesium so apparently need to supplement to replenish the levels of that and then there's also the school of thought that you also need to take Vit K2 along with Boron on top of that. You can go on forever it seems. I haven't got the latter 2 yet, I'm going to look into it and do a bit more research on it first, I think.

I take centrum , do you take Just Vit D. Is it a high dose?

I remember my grandmother taking this stuff mixed in water as a laxative - and I think my dad took it as a hangover cure!

I bought the Vit D3 1000 iu in tablet form along with the Magnesium (as above) but haven't started taking them yet as I wanted to get the right combination of supplements first. I'm not sure if the Vit D3 is a high enough dose but I am wary after the last time I supplemented with Vit D3 4000 iu in the form of drops on the tongue a few years ago as I ended up with a weird involuntary twisting inwards of my wrist (I found that I'd unconsciously tuck my fingers under my wrist while applying pressure downwards - if that makes sense) and I wouldn't even realise I was doing it as it must've been a gradual process until it got painful. It happened often enough to be quite noticeable and I attributed it to the drops as I'd never done that kind of thing prior to taking them so stopped using them and within a week or so that quirky little thing stopped so it kind of confirmed my suspicions in regards to the D3 (in the drop form at least). So this time I wanted to look into it further and get it right this time.

I've read that the K2 combined with the D3 helps deliver calcium to the right areas such as bones and teeth rather than to the arteries and soft tissue which can happen if the D3 is taken on its own which is obviously far from a good thing.

For anyone who hasnt tried it - it's a fairly good method of pain relief, good for stress (try it at bedtime if you sleep poorly) but it dries the skin. So it's good for spotty teenagers but if soaking in it regularly you may want to moisturise your skin.

My wife buys this in large sacks and i was sceptical until I had a sore hip and bathed in it. The gardeners in the family will be getting some for Christmas - not for the garden but to soak their muscles afterwards.

For those who prefer tablets you can get more expensive magnesium salts - magnesium malate is said to be good for fatigue and glycinate the least likely to cause digestive upsets.

Try using Epsom salts diluted in water in a spray form, or even better, Magnesium Chloride (also from ebay) works better this way but is a little less pleasant to use as it is more "sticky" whereas Epsom salts makes skin soft. See Dr Myhills site drmyhill.co.uk/wik…ncy for ideas and a "recipe"

BTW, if you are supplementing vitamin D3 (I do too) I suggest also supplementing Vitamin K2 (NOT vitamin K) so that calcium stays in your bones where it is supposed to stay and not migrate to your bloodstream!! (lots of info online)

What do people use this for when gardening?!

Kills weeds

Thanks op three 2.40 :-)

Yes this is good stuff for bathing in , you will find many bath products contain a little amount ,it is like vinegar and has a multi purpose use ,just a forgotten and not in vogue product ,it does not have a brand name thus has slipped away ! I have bathed in this and it helps without paying for branded useless rubbish with chemical false smells !
A bit like Aspirin really and also Baking Soda and Soda Crystals ,so many uses !
I would like to bring to your attention a product that was also very popular then vanished but has made a comeback and that is ENO ,available in LLoyds ,Fruit salts ,can sort out any acidic problems and hangovers ,depending how bad ,severe nothing can work , but Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin C taken after a heavy night out can really help out ! May contain Epsom Salts !
Well Matthew for your first post ,what an excellent one and thank you

Also 500g bags of Himalayan and Dead Sea at the same price.

ordered with discount thanks

Just picked up an order of these and my local store had lots in the shop at a £1 a bag if you are passing.
