I have an ecotank 3000. Honestly, they are amazing. Unlike normal inkjets, they are extremely cheap to run as the bottles print thousands of pages (I've printed 3000+ bw pages and still have lots of ink left. A bottles is only around £10 £15. Id totally recommend. Although, if you are looking for office printing, choose a spec you like. I chose the 3000 as it had colour, aotumatic duplex, scanner and inbuilt tray. I've been using mine for my a levels and it has been way better than my hp laserjet and Epson 6000. The initial price may look expensive but as you rarely need to buy cartridges. You see the savings over use. Hope this helps

Why this over a laser printer?

Why this over a laser printer?

comes with enough ink for 5000 pages, most lasers only come with starter toners that give 200 or 300 pages, so you probably will never need to buy ink again

does the duplex work with thicker paper. say 170gsm or higher ?
if its black and white only wouldnt a laser be better, certainally way quicker

After 10 years of reasonable use I've only just replaced toner in my laser printer. I didn't realise they only sell them with starter toners these days. I thought it was only dodgy third party sellers who sold them with starter toners.
Does the ink dry up like in an inkjet printer. I only print around 50-100 pages a month. This would last me years.

That's why I moved to laser. I was sick to death of ink cartridges drying up each time you went to use it. If you don't print every day, laser seems the only way., but if you do, inkjet works too (hey, it rhymes!!)

Mine didn't work with thicker card(forgot it's GSM) but depending on the model you would like it would say on the specs if it can do 170gsm duplex

Cheaper to run as you get a ≈5000 for £10 whilst lasers are £40 to £50 for ≈3000 pages. Also, these do not produce smoke when printing

mine hasnt, had it 2 years and i print less than that.

Love my ecotank. crap software, but the printer and running costs are awesome

I paid £140 2 years back for a different version

I paid £15 for a toner that does 3000 pages a brother laser not sure where you get £50 from i can print multiple documents quickly, inkjet would take ages with a inkjet , i have both and only use the inkjet when I need a bit of colour, its what suits you best at end of day
Please do not waste you time on inkjets, laser is much faster, better quality and more reliable (no clogged heads, alignment etc).

You can get a mono laser for less than this price, they may only come with 1000 page toner but another 1000 page toner can be less than a tenner.

Ok this is 5000 pages but if you are printing 5000 pages I suspect you will have issues before you get to use the full 5000, or if you are going to hammer 5000 pages out of this you sound like a business user and do you really want to issue to customers stuff on inkjet quality?

Arguably, in a large office environment, these should be quieter and use less energy when printing - and energy costs twice in office blocks (needing extra aircon to remove the extra heat.)

But for light home use, an appropriate laser is usually a better choice - except for photo prints!

You are probably buying off brand refills as laserjet inks are crazy expensive.

If you haven't used a printer, you cannot make assumptions about it. Laserjets maybe fast but inkjets are not that slow. Inkjets selll better as they have many advantages like having cheaper official ink cartridges and most do not clog as you are trying to make out. Laserjets are extremely load and create heat and smoke and printing lots would require ventilation. Literally every school, office and hospital uses inkjet printers. This is a better deal than any laserjet at the same price point

Yeah our printer in work is laser a3 and costs leas than half a penny per page. This is more for home users surely.

Can't see schools using inkjet too slow and not economical enough for them. When I was in 6th Form (joined onto a large secondary with 1500 students) they had about 25 laser prints through out the school mainly Mono ones due to cheap running costs that was back in 2011, I cant see much changing since then. Could see the colour ecotank printers possibly being cost effective in a schools Art department though as I remember the colour laser printers back then costing a fortune to run.

What a load of rubbish their is no way inkjet would be economical for schools, office or hospital. All three mainly print in mono and in large quantities hence their preferred choice is Laser. Schools may be tempted to use a colour inkjet ecotank in an Art department where colour laser printers are usually expensive to run but for everyday use they will always go for laser printers as the costs are more economical and they can cope with the demand put on them. Another reason schools are less likely to go for inkjet as well is the summer holidays where printers would not be used for 6 weeks possibly leading to clogging.

You've definitely paid attention to printers. A popular brand they use is Konica Minolta printers which are inkjets. A laserjet produces heat and gases which cannot be used. Clearly you have not seen or used one of those printers. The printers on hotukdeals are home printers which are not suitable for high volume printing. High end inkjets are quite fast and your reasoning is not necessarily true for places like them. So your assumption is bs as you have not seen any

Your talking crap the only place I have seen Konica Minolta being used in the schools are in the admin department. Most classrooms use laser printers their cheaper to run end of! and maybe next time you get your head checked at the local hospital pay attention and you'll find a large proportion of the printers they are using are HP laser printers.
