can't find reviews for 5100 but found some for 5200 (see above link for differences - they are not alike but very similar)

Good price, 1080p for 350

Bitten the bullet and ordered. Wanted a projector for a long time, and this price is too much to resist.

good luck

I'm looking for a big tv in the sales. Hadn't really considered a projector...

just cant find anything on enthusiast forums about this projector...most reviews on amazon are for 5200 - for me it will be between this and the Benq that richer sounds had on offer for black friday and i assume they will drop again for Xmas sales

how much cost the Bulb of this Epson EH-TW5100 Projector?

Great price, so tempting, I've been looking out for a projector to play Xbox One on after i decided going from a 40" to 50" tv for the same price as a 300" 1080p projector was a no brainer and this looks great for the price. Wish there were some more reliable reviews but for £350 how many complaints could you really have? it'd be another £100+ for a projector that does what this does and wouldn't have this many connections.

Stick a Chromecast in that MHL HDMI port and you've got a smart projector for £370

am I missing something though or don't you need like a dedicated cinema room with a big blank white wall for a projector? surprised to see people are interested as a tv alternative but I'm probs being stupid!

tbh i thought the same but it seems like projectors have come a long way since needing a big dark room and £10,000. This projector will project 86 inches from a meter away from the wall, i don't mind repainting the wall i'm gonna use but you could get a nice 120" for another £80 or even cheaper if you go smaller obviously, then you could get a travel screen and a case for your projector and take it round friends houses i'm still gonna use my 40" tv most of the time, for the planets sake and my electric bill too haha but for gaming for a few hours and watching a film with friends it will definitely replace my tv.

Hmmm - wonder if my wife would notice if I silently replaced my rather old Epson TW10 with this!!!

dont want

dont want to state what appears to be the obvious here but the 5200 seems the black and the 5100 appears to be the white version of the same pj ..

A pj for all intent and purposes simply cannot replace a tv , daytime viewing for one , whilst they claim it can be viewed , for sure it can but it dont mean it will be a good picture ! A great alternative to tv . yes.
Also to any newbies out there , just be aware that buying the pj is the first step , there`s the screen to consider , a whole new set of leads , may be ceiling mounting , is it quite a job to get it all sorted.
On the plus side . Lcd = no rainbow effect .....

thats what i thought but if you look at the comparison on epson's website there are differences in lumens etc, 5200 seems to be the slightly better model

5200 vs 5100

Colour Light Output 2,000 Lumen-1,400 Lumen (economy) vs 1,800 Lumen
White Light Output 2,000 Lumen - 1,400 Lumen (economy) vs 1,800 Lumen
Contrast Ratio 15,000 : 1 vs 13,000 : 1

Expensive bulbs have always put me off the idea of projectors in the past. If/when I get a projector, I'll likely pick up a few bulbs with it and factor that into the cost

I recently bought a Optoma projector and screen. Absolutely no way I'm going back to TV.

Got rid of TV. Screen rolls up. Projector fixed to ceiling. Flat looks awesome. Go for it.

Definitely Donker mode!

Amazon are just toying with me. Looking for a projector but can't quite afford it at the moment. And this is such a bargain. Heat for the deal, but tears for me.

Soo tempted by this, alas the lounge in my current place just won't work and £350 is a fair wad to drop on something that I might not use for 6months.

It's a great price though, not many left so if your on the fence it's time to jump.

Hmmm...I ordered the BenQ TH681 that was on here from Amazon a couple of days back...it's being delivered today, but now i'm wondering whether this would be better - both similar price - LCD v's DLP I guess...i'm leaning towards this one though..

wait till the misses finds out 2 have been ordered !! though I am saving £30 with this one

Here is a review of if slightly bigger brother - www.whathifi.com/epson/eh-tw5200/review
And a comparison chart of each of the models - http://www.epson.co.uk/gb/en/viewcon/corporatesite/products/mainunits/comparison/12422,14303

Hope it helps someone.

Exactly the same situation, I can't bring myself to have it sat there for months until it gets used!

does curry have same model?

cheers for that. I guess I will keep looking for a TV then

Bargain alert... For anyone sitting on the fence, just do it. We have a small living room and an oversized tv would look stupid. We project onto the chimney breast (painted with Dulux Light and Space Matt white paint) and the results are outstanding. We have a wall mounted 32" for daytime viewing and the projector gets used evenings and weekends.

1800 lumens is a bit on the dim side - unless you have a windowless room or blackout material lined curtains.
I installed a PJ with a 82" screen and a wall mounted short throw bracket earlier this year.
When the screen is retracted it is so good to have a living room without a distracting ugly TV. Haven't got around to blackout lined curtains, but still watchable at brightest time of day.
Hot deal.

This is a top deal, good value at around £500, great at this. Gutted I got an Optoma for a bit over £500 earlier this year.

Ordered thanks! I've and old QED 5m £110 HDMI to HDMI sitting doing nothing after moving my PC which will fit the bill!

Wow great price, been thinking about replacing my infocus in1_aud for a 3d one but still got one unused bulb left so probably not worth it right now
to those thinking about it don't forget you're gonna need some cables to extend your av equipment to wherever you put the projector, make sure you have thick curtains too to enhance daytime viewing and for the real experience a good 5.1 surround sound system (or better) these things may up the cost but it's worth doing properly if you're gonna do it
be sure to buy a few bulbs too ready for when they stop making them and the price skyrockets

OP why did you post this? I dont need it.....but I just ordered it
HOT

DLP has higher contrast ratio, sharper image, no dust filters needed, virtually no colour degradation and a much more 'cinematic' image.
LCD need filters cleaned, changed, colour degradation over time, less engaging image, but no rainbow effect. Something to consider.

im glad i did, kills alarge tv for me and get a screen with a slight grey tint and contrast lvls are awesome,my projector is 3000 lumens though and about 2000 in eco mode which will give me a few years use.
this one is LED so will last years and the lumens is ok for a LED on a budget and will blow you away (but i think DLP is better personally)

People that come to my house are simply blown away by my 106" 1080p crystal clear screen)as clear as my 47" 1080p led tv.
Films and gaming are epic and people prefer it to the cinema because its closer(12-14ft away)

i made my own screen from wood and blackout blind material and then used the furry half of velcro strip for the borders.
If anyone wants any advice on making the frame i have a few links

my screen cost me about £30 to make and its fixed to my wall.

USE THIS TO HELP FIGURE YOUR FIXTURES AND SETUPS.
youwant to avoid having to zoom in/out a far way and obviously the further away the duller the image.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Epson_Europe-EH-TW5100-projection-calculator-pro.htm

the reason i went with 106" is because i couldnt find material for screen in my budget wide enough.
if anyone wants pictures i can put some up.

Only thing putting me off is the warranty on this is it only 1 year? surely for a £600 projector you should be getting a 5 year warranty?
