I have this projector. I don't know much about rivals, but its very good. If you have questions ask away.

edit: I'm currently projecting around 90 - 100 inches onto a 1.2 gain projector screen. Installing the screen was slight hassle but the projector is plenty bright, even in a room with thin curtains during the day. 3100 seems to be a sweet spot. I'm unsure if I would have been better off getting a Chinese projector with similar lumens and full HD - it would have been cheaper but bulb support and software would probably be worse. It does NOT have DLNA and you can only cast still images with the build in Epson app so you would benefit from a chromecast or similar if you are looking for this functionality. You should connect to full HD source via HDMI. Hope that helps. Again, any questions please ask away. I didn't ceiling mount I have a stand. It's not really noisy which makes a change from projectors of yesteryear.

I was wondering how this compared to the Optoma HD142x

I just bought the Epson 5650 model (A flash Amazon deal posted on here) which is also superb. Which screen make did you opt for?

I've auditioned the Epson 5650, TW650 and HD142X before purchasing and the Epson 5650 won hands down for me. The TW650 is a good projector if your budget doesn't stretch to the 5650 model. The Optoma's fan was very noisy for me and I was worried about the rainbow effect that some of my family members are sensitive to.

Similar to this one but 90" which means I may be projecting closer to 75". Quite happy with it though! This one costs about the same as my 90" did ......
