I have this printer and I can highly recommend it.

Looks a great price to me, heat added

What are Epson printers like for ink costs ? are cheap alternatives viable and available or is there a better manufacturer for replacement ink?.

I got the original 4 colour pack from Play.com for about £13. I have also bought black (double capacity) from INKredible.co.uk for around £3.20. No issues with the ink quality.

great

Good Deal, however its only £28.70 Delivered at John Lewis.

In case this helps anybody

You can get a free ink cartridge for this printer from this website (only pay postage £2.99) not bad deal if you want to buy something else

hotukdeals.com/ite…ri/

or two black ones for £4.95 with free delivery.

I am a bit tempted to get this printer, I have an all in one Lexmark but the ink is over £20

Thanks for this, I think I rather get it from John Lewis, I guess is would be a lot easier to return if something goes wrong.

Heat added and rep for you and the OP

You should post that as a seperate deal 'cos a lot of people would prefer to buy from JL methinks

Excellent device! I bought it from Argos for similar price a while ago and I am very happy.

I've got it, but I find it soooo slow

I've got the dx4400 and sx600fw and my sister has the sx200. They are all quite slow to ready themselves to print but actual speed when printing is Ok. We got the SX200 for less than £30 a few months ago so I think this is not a great deal just the normal price.

Epson have excellent post sales services, they will send an engineer out to your home to fix/replace your printer in the event of a fault. IMO that is much better than having to take the printer back to a store yourself.

I have this printer and it drinks black ink as if it's the first can of the day of Special Brew.

Just ordered a CLI system for it, cost 28 quid, but should reduce printing costs considerably.

Wish I had got a budget laser printer now, but I was given the sx100 for free, so I can't really complain.

Still for 30 quid it's a good enough a deal

John Lewis has not got it in stock, I try ringing them as well and no luck so I went for this deal directly from Epson.

Thanks again to the OP

If only it was wireless too! So are print costs for these printers much lower than Lexmark and Olivetti? If that's the case, I should get this. Thanks for the tip.

Maybe a dumb Q, but what is a CLI system?

lol that was quick, OOS at John Lewis.

I'm guessing it should be CIS not CLI. CIS is Continuous Ink System, which is basically some large bottles of ink which sit outside of the printer and are connected to a specially modified ink cartridge. This makes it easier and cheaper to refill inks as you can buy the ink in bulk and as the bottles are far larger than a cartridge you can print lots more between refills.

oh - thankyou! seems like a good idea

I have a dell all in one that I got free with a laptop - seems adequate.

Its out of ink now and I have not looked at cartrages - would it be cheaper/easier to buy this and bin the old one?

Can I get cheapy Dell cartages - or am I locked to Dells, no doubt expensive ones?

I seem to think that Epsom printers aren't Mac compatible. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Heat added just ordered one hope its as good as my r200 epson had many years use.

Correct mistyped that.

CIS - makes a big difference cost wise.

I got around 50 pages from the last black ink cartridge I had. Even buying them at 3 quid a pop it adds up.

where did you get your system from?
is it messy? - how long do the big bottles last?

tnxs

I can absolutely confirm that epson printers ARE compatible with Macintosh computers, and if you use mac os 10.5 (leopard) the interface and print management is excellent.

I have two epson printers rigged to my two macs, one pc and one linux machine and have never had any issues. The previous comment may be down to epson being slightly slow with updating their drivers for mac os 10.5, but it's been out for long enough for that not to be an issue.

Incidentally, I would highly recommend epson printers in general - the con is that they tend to be s-l-o-w, but the biggest advantage is that the 3rd party ink carts are cheap and much more reliable than they used to be.

I purchased a special offer canon pixma which printed, scanned and photocopied. Bought it for £25 with colour and black carts included but was utterly horrified when I found out I would be paying approx £30 for a set of cartridges that only lasted a month or so. As speedy as it was it went in then bin. Not green I know, but canon need to learn not to overcharge on consumables!

Was the one I got.

It's still not empty. Huge difference between that and the stupid little cartridges.

Can't see it being messy to refill unless you have shaky hands.

I would be very surprised that it could be mac-imcompatible. Epson is the standard printer for graphic designers and what is Mac good at? You've guessed it!

www.ukdvdr.co.uk has the projet cartridges for £1.58 including VAT each. I have had a few problems with pro-jet in the past but they might have improved since them, try them and see for that price.

If you can find them "jet tec" cartridges are the best aftermarket ink cartridges that money can buy, identical to genuine in every way except cost. see if you (google) can find them.
