I bought the V550 two years ago as a Black Friday deal for £110 and have never used it. I really bought it to scan negatives rather than prints, and there are no clear instructions anywhere as to how to do this using the ICE noise reduction system. There are no proper operating manuals available from Epson (just basic scanning guides) and the only video I could find on YouTube at the time showed a guy scanning black & white negs which can't use the ICE technology, so therefore didn't tell people how to use it. I intend getting to grips with it one day, but be warned, it's not an easy piece of kit to use from day one. And if you just want to scan prints, there's cheaper out there that will do the job just fine.

Sounds like good advice.
There are quite a few detailed reviews on Amazon that shed some light into its operational foibles. Been considering a decent scanner and this is a tempting price, the one built into my multifunction HP printer is poor for photos.

V700 owner here. I never read a manual.

- Switch on scanner
- Insert negative into carrier text side up
- Close lid
- Run Epson scanning software
- Scan total area
- Identify negatives by drawing rectangular selection
- Choose colour negative, DPI 3200, ICE if needed
- Choose where to export
- Scan, export as tif
- Adjust in PS to taste.

There really isn't a better scanner for less unless you are shooting 35mm only, then you want a Plustek.

Sadly no modern scanner outside of the Flextight series will beat the cracking Nikon Coolscans or drum scanners o yesteryear.
I also have an old Plustek from 15 years ago, but the Silverfast software won't work on W7 or W10.
This V600 is what my local Snappy Snaps uses.
