Just a word or ten to the wise... When I investigated this app about 18 months ago - it was actively "background" communicating with servers in China - even when the app was not being used. I don't know what info was being sent as I abandoned the app immediately.
It may have changed by now but I suspect not. Personally I now use an alternate app I paid for but won't promote unless asked (I have no affiliation with any file manager apps).
So - please just be careful with the super cheap/free deals on the app stores.

Good price and it used to be the best file manager on android. Now it's just chocked full of useless bloat that isn't wanted or necessary for a file manager. I'd never use it again.

Use solid explorer..much better than this

Interesting point of view; can I ask why you think that? I was always lead to believe, by the Android community, that ES was the better of the two? Be interested to hear why you think what you do

Heat OP.

I wasn't charged for it. Heat!

Good app thanks, heated

Does the pro get rid of all this?

The company that makes this product really ruined the free version forcing adverts everywhere including the lock screen. That used to be excellent but is deserving of the hate for the cash grab. Having said that using the pro version that gets rid of the ads then I think it's still a good product.

See earlier posts. I have been with Android since the start with the Google G1. I used ES for years until it become full of unnecessary bloatware. I also switched to Solid Explorer quite a while ago.

This.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I have Solid Pro too, so I'll go back to that. I knew I'd read somewhere that ES was the best at some point, thought I was going mad

I regularly use an Android app called "Spy Monitor".

Full of bloatware I'll pass and stick to solid explorer....

Seems expired, shows 3 euros to me.

Paid full price for mine when it first came out, hot!

Hot. Been using free one for years. At 10p worth a trial

EP was great till they loaded it with bloatware and ads. Solid Explorer is the current top choice in android community - check against reddit

also it might be worth adding you could potentially get this for free - download the google rewards app - complete the first survey and you will get 0.10p - use that to purchase

https://www.androidpit.com/this-is-why-you-should-not-use-es-file-explorer

The article is over a year old. It says:
The final straw, and the reason for this article [taking it off the recommended list], is that ES File Explorer recently added another piece of bloatware: DU Charge Booster.
I have been using ES Explorer ("paid" version - got for free well over a year ago) for a long time and never experienced this DU charge Booster thing. Or if it was loaded, It took so little time and effort to remove that I have forgotten about it.

I continue to be very pleased with ES File Explorer (especially it's handling of networked storage) and fully expect to keep using it - without any bloatware - for a long time to come.

Agree with the comments above, used to be great but tanked full of bloat now. Actively slows any device down I had it installed on.

Ditched it and went with the Asus file management tool on all devices and it is solid

Anybody can advice some equivalent with same network storage browsing capabilities?

I'm not sure about comments about bloatware. I've purchased this. It all looks good. Is the bloatware only in the free addition? Also solid explorer you need to pay. Which is considerably more than 10p at the moment.

Fortunately, I tend to backup previous apps, so I'm still using the pre-bloatware version 3.2.4.1.

I have to add to the voices saying how bloated the free version of this app is/was. Intrusive with constant notifications. It's very rare for an app to annoy me enough to uninstall it. I wouldn't trust having even the paid version now if a company can act like that with their free versions. It was a great app.

What file explorer do you use? I've used ES free in the past and I'm looking for a better alternative.

Yes - just checked myself and it doesn't seem to be listed for some reason. I've just emailed the developer to ask why ... I'll let you know when I know.
The developer "organisation" is RadioOpt GmbH just in case you were wondering 😊

I use File Commander on Android - it's comprehensive enough for my daily needs.
A simple free option that I sometimes use is "Simple File Manager" by "Simple Mobile Tools". They've got a "suite" of - wait for it - Simple tools 😁 Basic but functional and no unnecessary permissions needed ...
Hope that helps!

I'd suggest FX file explorer instead, their Privacy Statement is absolutely fantastic. nextapp.com/apps/

Honestly, read it, seems really honest compared to these other file apps (excluding LineageOS File Manager).

Also it is a free app without advertisements. Can't get better than that.

File commander has ads. Solid explorer wants your IMEI instead of a universal google play license.

Paid for File Commander is ad free.

Astro File Manager is a great alternative or any of the XDA developed apps. ES File Explorer was great but went down hill with all the bloatware. I

MiXplorer is the file manager I went with after ES was sold to a chinese datamining company and became unusable. I tried a bunch of different file managers, and MiX was the only one that came close to ES functionality and simplicity.

Amaze is also good if FLOSS is important (source at github)

Another vote for Solid explorer here. I have the ad free version of ES and white it's not bad, I just don't find it as zippy is Solid. I've been running them side by side for a while but if the above is true about Chinese data-mining, it's being uninstalled.

Awesome.Thanks!

After bailing on ES File Explorer due to the bloatware / spyware issue last year, I have been using Total Commander and find it very powerful - I use the desktop version on my computer as I got used to dual-pane file managers years ago and can't live without them now.

Android version: play.google.com/sto…_GB

Windows version: ghisler.com/

I notice that the play store version says it contains ads but they must be unobtrusive as I haven't actually noticed any!
