Didn't even know this was a thing! I still have my 1970s version bought for 50p from a jumble sale about 30 years ago.

Colditz castle – world War II. An impregnable Fortress. An inescapable prison. Until now. Designed by major Pat Reid, one of only a handful of prisoners-of-war to escape colditz castle, and screenwriter Brian Degas, escape from colditz is the iconic game of careful planning and nerves of steel. Become Allied escape officers--assemble your equipment, plot your escape routes, and coordinate your efforts to avoid the guards. Become the German security officer--maintain control through guile, ruthlessness, and careful observation despite limited numbers. This Deluxe edition of the classic game for 2 to 6 players includes both original and updated rules, new hand-painted artwork, an oversized board, 56 wooden playing pieces, 100 fully illustrated cards, a 32-page history book, and unique replicas of artefacts from the prison. Seventy-five years ago, major Reid braved barbed wire, searchlights, and armed guards to escape from colditz. Now it's your turn to do the same!

The 70's versions are sort after. 50p well spent. This is a great game.
Just FYI this reprint is done by Osprey Publishing who are known for nice production and component quality, though they kept the game itself close to the original (a few minor modernisations but original rules included if you want to play that way). Good price - Osprey releases are often cheaper at online book stores (Books Etc & similar) but this seems to beat them by a couple of quid.

You are correct, the components look lovely! I'm sorely tempted but wouldn't want to let go of my 70s copy!

Might be an unpopular opinion but I bought this at £50 from Waterstones and although the components are high quality I honestly dont think the game is really worth £50. I would have rather spend that on another tabletop game like Lords of Waterdeep or Ticket to Ride and still have enough change to grab one of the expansions.

At £32 Id say grab it if you are desperate otherwise I feel like there are better games to be had for £30.
A nice trip down memory lane. Used to have this game as a kid. Shame I haven't still got it if its 'sought' after!

I'm not sure we ever actually finished a game though!

I think for most it will be the nostalgia of the original. I'm sure there are 'better' games for a similar price but all depends what you want out of it

Us either!
Where the swastikas?
Used to love this. Maybe Angela could buy this for Boris for Christmas; he obviously didn't forget the war.

Where the swastikas?

yeah erm, frowned upon. Although Boris is in now so anything's possible.
Still got my original unopened, worth thousands. Brought for £3

Good luck on getting thousands for it. I have the original game also. It's not that rare.
"Don't mention the war, I mentioned it once but think I got away with it."
Recently watched that episode of Fawlty Towers and laughed.

Where the swastikas?

The original version had these on and then a second edition was done later without them, further editions were released into 1990's and early 2000's. It's why, from a collectors point of view, the first edition with the swastikas is worth more than later editions without them. The Parker edition is more collectable than the Gibson games edition as it also contained a red cross parcel.

Didn’t mean to trigger

A thousand apologies

Still has the White Power Eagle, which is similar
Bought this at a jumble sale at the same time as i was playing through Oceans great escape on the speccy. Iirc it's fairly complex with a lot of stages to get through and, like others, I'm not sure i ever finished it (by stealing a German uniform and commandeering the commandant's car?)

I think you meant sought-after.

I bought one at boarding school in 1974, and it was just a few of us that played it (probably called geeks in our day!), but I looked after it. I have the original set with the swastikas on the cards. I still have it, and have taught a number of kids to play it 10 years ago and they absolutely loved it!

The box has a little bit of whitening on the edges, but I still have the tissue paper that was in the board and the replica rations pack that held all the cards and bits etc.

Would not part with it for the world! Very fond memories.

Ian.

Unfortunately the Eagle has been misappropriated by far right groups due to the fascist link, not unlike the swastika was by the nazis in truth

The pub is closed now, it was the pub all the Pub Watch people went to, only popped in to have a pint before the bus, honestly the scariest time of my life. As soon as he pulled up his pants leg and showed us that tat i bricked it

It’s a shame. Everyone uses the Naz word these days that I’m assuming that it could just be a group with MAGA hats
