Thanks for your help and advice everyone, I think I'll take a look at the … Thanks for your help and advice everyone, I think I'll take a look at the Arduino kits.I've actually made basic lighting circuits for traffic lights etc using NE555 Timers & Decade counters, but need something programmable for more advanced parts of his layout, mainly the special lighting effects for the funfair rides on the village green!I should point out, I know nothing about this stuff really, I did work with a service engineer for some time in the 80s, but that was more about video mechanisms. So a few years ago, (don't laugh!) I got one of those 200 in 1 kits, and started adding external components to the sample builds, and more recently from watching sample tutorials on YouTube etc.You can buy all this type of stuff ready made for model railways and so on, but it's just so expensive, wheras components are really cheap, not to mention that through ill health I don't have much money, but do have a lot of time on my hands. So is Arduino fairly easy to learn? (last time I did actual programming, was on the C64!)

Arduino is very straight-forward. You need to learn a bit of C/C++ to do things, but it really can be very simple indeed.

Just pm me if you need any information on how to get started, or where to get the devkits. Happy to lend a hand with any coding you might need done as ell.

Does anyone know if there are any free software development kits for this? Is there a free c compiler? Any recommendations?

Thanks

The 915 version will work just fine; it's only the frequency of the watch, the usb receiver and accesories you might buy. So buying a chest strap will be difficult if you get the us version. Technically you'd be breaking the law if you use the wrong frequency, but the range for these things is so small that that's theoretical.

1 returned to stock but again no luck with ordering.
Would 915 version work in the UK?

it seems this is no longer available. after checkout it states there is backorder.
Note: Backorders exist on your order.
It also seems that if you agree to wait for the backorder you will be cherged shipping cost.
Can anyone confirm this?

Only the 915 left in stock.

Thanks all for the clarification. Will order one just for the retro looking watch

I assume you are trying to say that you dont know what it is (dont worry about it) That I am the seller... No not at all, if only I owned Texas Instruments they probably manufactured parts for a fair few of your electronic items and I am sad to say I dont own that company but good try

As for it being a deal my audience is limited but some people may see it at uni or just as a hobby and if one finds it then all good.

these kinds of board allow you to program to interface with sensors etc or control motors they are for home projects like some on this site ( www.hackaday.com/ ) which is where I started.

There's got to be someone somewhere who's getting mildly excited by this deal, probably in a Vic Reeves knee-rubbing kind of excitement

what does it do ? what potentially can it do ?
all we've heard so far its a "solar powered development board" - to develop what exactly ?
