    Can these be used instead of a suitcase on a flight ?

    Yes but you will need to drop off at the excess baggage/awkward items belt due to the straps.

    Wow, this still looks identical (in design) to the one I got 20 years ago! (It wasn't called Nepal85 then) Used it 3 or 4 times, including backpacking in Eqypt. Very practical design, roomy and yet not too wide to hit everything you walk past. But I expect the materials are now cheaper as they don't mention them at all in the specs. Still, heat given.
