Dont know if this is everyones cup of tea or if people stay local but thought i would post it, the event is in Greenock, Scotland

136 pipe bands will descend upon Battery Park, Greenock, on Saturday 25th July to compete in the European Pipe Band Championships.

The second largest in the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Associations calendar of major events, the European Pipe Band Championships will see over 4,000 competitors taking part. In addition to the pipers, drummers and pipe majors, there will be a Highland Dance Competition starting at 10.30am, and so far around 50 dancers have registered, with entries being taken up to and on the day.

We are delighted that Greenock is hosting this prestigious championship for the second time, said Inverclydes Provost, Michael McCormick. The event was acclaimed a success in 2006 by band members and visitors from home and abroad. The panoramic views of the Clyde Estuary and Hills of Argyll make a stunning backdrop for the spectacle of the event.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of Inverclyde Councils Regeneration Committee added: Inverclyde extends a warm welcome to our competing bands from the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland, and Im sure there will be a resounding cheer across Battery Park when Inverclydes own Novice Juvenile band takes to the field.

Inverclyde Leisure will put on some displays and come and try events in the all weather football pitch. There will be trade stands selling all sorts of tartan and piping related goods, food and drinks outlets and other entertainment to make it a fun day out.

The competition will commence at 9.00am and will culminate in the march past and Salute to the Chieftain at around 6.00pm. The Golden Lions Parachute Display will make a spectacular drop and landing into the arena just before the march past at about 5.15pm. Inverclyde Council would like to thank the Royal Regiment of Scotland for sponsoring the jump.

The day will include a highland dancing competition, drum majors competition and other events and activities for the family. Admission is free.
