Early Christmas Goodies for PlayStation Plus subscribers

"Plus" members have the advantage of (free) access to "Sack Boy’s Prehistoric Moves" for one week before 'standard' PlayStation Network Members can download it (on 15 December 2010):

Please see: [ blog.eu.playstation.com/201…es/ ]

The Beta version of "Little Big Planet 2" is not an exclusive PlayStation Plus subscriber item, but the Beta period is to be extended for "Plus" members (by way of selective invitation by e-mail).

Also available to "Plus" members are two "Dead Nation" avatars ('Hero' & 'Heroine') & a selection of free "Hustle Kings" avatars (for just a two-week period; so download promptly!).

On 22 December 2010, the PS3/PSP ports of NeoGeo Station titles will present "Samurai Showdown" [for the PS3] free to "Plus" members. NeoGeo launch title, "Magician Lord", [for the PS3] will be free to "Plus" members in February.
"Plus" members will also be able to receive a 20% discount off all NeoGeo Station titles.

Also announced for release (with no specific date[s] revealed) are "Fatal Fury", "Metal Slug", & "The King of Fighters" for both PS3 & PSP platforms.

Today sees the release of "NeoGeo Heroes ~Ultimate Shooting~" on PlayStation Store for the PSP
[ jp.playstation.com/sof…tml ].

...Further festive offers are to be revealed soon.

Also please note that PS3 System Software Update 3.55 was released yesterday (7 December 2010) to address "security issues".
You will need to update your console prior to connecting to PlayStation Network &/or prior to using PlayStation Store.

The PSP System Software was last updated on 24 November 2010 to version 6.35.
(Version 6.36 is available on the Universal Media Disc version of "Monster Hunter Portable 3rd"; released in Japan on 1 December 2010).

Version 6.35 provides a new XrossMediaBar menu item ready for the new service "Music Unlimited"

Sorry I may have given the wrong impression, I meant by it that it was a very good deal as it is unlikely to go down in price any more than this (with very little scope for buying a UMD copy cheaper).

why do we vote this cold?
its a useful collection of the info, and there's discounted scott pilgrim!

The pick of the bunch for me is Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for £23.99. Absolute bargain...............if this were 3 years ago.

It has never been available (officially) for downloading & running directly from the PS3 console's hard drive. Maybe Sony have been researching the titles that "the community" have been playing illegally from Blu-ray Disc images & are making such games available now.

It is still a good game. I was playing it just over a week ago.

Couldn't help but laugh at the price of R6V2! You can buy it for approx £10!

Members have their own opinions/agendas & are free to vote how they wish.

The information I have provided is to help everybody who would be interested (it is not part of the deal being considered).

I value everybody's contributions to my usual threads of this nature, but if somebody wishes to vote cold & not comment then do not question why. You are rarely going to guess everybody's intentions.

BFN,

fp.

Maybe if we are really lucky they will make the PS3 similar to PSP Go so you can only download games from the PSN store at stupidly high prices!!

Yes, I would agree that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was a good game when I last played it about 2 and a half years ago. It's now available on physical media (which you can sell on when you get bored) for around £5.

So the £23.99 Ubisoft/Sony are charging for a digital download of the game is offensive in my opinion.

...but you cannot install it to your hard drive. The price will fall over time; it is the first time this item has been available. Also, the price you can buy it at is not how Sony values the digital equivalents; they look at pricing in comparison to the Recommended Retail Price.

Ubisoft are responsible for that, not Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

...but you can't sell it on either; I've bought and sold this 3 or 4 times so far oO

Hopefully, over time it will fall and once it hits £10, I'll get it again.

Good work on the post though as it is very informative

Also, the price you can buy it at is not how Sony values the digital equivalents; they look at pricing in comparison to the Recommended Retail Price.Ubisoft are responsible for that, not Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.BFN,fp.

You seem to be suggesting that consumers should want to pay an additional £13-18 for the opportunity of installing a game to the PS3's hard drive rather than using the machine's disc drive.

Maybe if we are really lucky they will make the PS3 similar to PSP Go so … Maybe if we are really lucky they will make the PS3 similar to PSP Go so you can only download games from the PSN store at stupidly high prices!!

A device with digital-only distribution has been recognised as not being right for today's market & the last announcement on this subject from Sony was that the PlayStation Network/Store model (or suitable equivalent) will be an on-going service in the next Sony Home Entertainment System (the next console after the "PS3"). However, it will not be the only method of gaining software (& other media).

I have a PSPgo console & rarely touch my Portable handsets from the first three iterations of the console series, but I certainly would not want my primary console to be served only by digital content.

The market will change in the future & consumer goods with physical media will be the exception, rather than the rule, but Sony acknowledge the time is not now, or within the immediate future (of the PlayStation brand).

I'm suggesting consumers have the choice (now).

[EDIT]:
PS. Please don't misunderstand me; I'm not defending the pricing.

For example, please see my comments from two weeks ago:

Ubisoft are playing a strange tactic with their re-release of bluray games on the PSN store for download, some cccccrrrrazzzzyyy prices. Last week it was Assassins Creed 1 for twenty odd quid and now Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Cheers for posting FP.

Scott pilgrim and Shin megami tensei:persona are the only ones I'd want but thats two decent games so given it some heat.

Thanks for the effort, fp.

It is worth noting that the store has updated early today, for a change.

I have just bought Tank Battles for 79p, and am also downloading the Alien Breed 2 Trial, along with the Zen Pinball Demo (2).

I may pick up Scott Pilgrim, as I enjoyed the demo - I just wish they would patch in an online co-op mode.

I was revisiting Bionic Commano Re-Armed last night, and it is absolutely awesome - well worth buying if you don't already have it (I know it is not on offer btw....). Looking forward to the sequel now.

Thanks FB, I always look forward to this topic.

I'm gonna get Scott Pilgrim now, been waiting for a price drop. Kung Fu Live looks insane, might give it a go, cheers.

Heat added and as always thanks for putting the effort in collating the weekly update.

Tad annoying update when comparing to what is available this week on the US PSN store.
I'll just wait for the upcoming blog comments regarding it.

Unfortunately for me the only title that has me interested is Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game - anyone know if they introduced online co-op multiplayer yet? If not then I'll pass for other PSN titles.

Happy gaming,
Scar

I posted the US Store Update for comparisons of that nature, Scar, as I noticed there was a definite difference in quantity/quality across the Pond this week.

Annoyingly, I downloaded the Demo for "Saw II" just (very) early this morning (that I had been meaning to do since it was first available in the US) only to find it available on the European Store today anyway!

Regarding "Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game", 'fc' made reference (above) to the outstanding patch. It surely cannot be far away. The multiplayer aspects sounds like a lot of fun (however having more players on screen concurrently may just make the chaotic game-play, in a good way, worse!).

I may buy it (& "Tank Battles" for 79p!) & just leave it (them) sat in my Download List for when I have hard drive capacity to use them (or download them to one of my kids' machines over Christmas when the sugar 'high' is wearing off).

My PSPgo could probably do with some new content too, so I will see what is included in the "minis" title, "Arcade Essentials".

So much good stuff around at the moment... & so much I am missing due to a lack of time/opportunity to play. Goodness only knows how stressed I will be when the titles on my Christmas List start calling for my attention!

...

Has anybody bought "Dead Nation" yet?

I am teetering on the brink of buying Dead Nation - the single player looks great, but the MP looks even better, and the lack of voice chat is putting me off. I will probably wait for the voice comms patch to arrive.

With regard to Scott Pilgrim, I don't think that Ubisoft are planning on adding online co-op. Shame, really.

Article here: joystiq.com/201…er/

If anyone wants some fun side-scrolling beat-em-up action, they should buy Castle Crashers, imho

Sadly nothing for me this time! Thanks for posting as usual fp.

There is always Skype-to-Skype via a PSP in the meantime, 'f'c'

Can anybody comment on whether the Xbox 360 version of "Scott Pilgrim..." has online multiplayer support? (The PS3 had a timed exclusive on this title, for once!).

OK... lots of people can comment on it. I'll re-phrase that query...

Does anybody have the Xbox 360 version of "Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game"?
If so, is an online multiplayer mode, or modes, available?

Thanks.

BFN,

fp.

Strange of them to remove, "Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves."

I am aware of it not being listed for free for PS+ members but according to their twitter feed they have fixed this issue - whether this fix and having the listing removed is related I don't know.

It's unfortunate that they haven't noticed this problem before going live - looking at comment #50 from the blog someone has already unintentionally purchased it despite being a PS+ subscriber. The question is whether anyone else has bought it in error and of course how (and if) Sony would resolve these instances (I do faintly recall the recent PSN T&C saying that a purchase over PSN is final - whether these circumstances warrant a refund I don't know, perhaps these are new grounds to cancel a subscription as it failed to provide the service advertised. Oh if only then Charlie could get rid of his subscription that he's not a fan of.)

I too have yet to buy Dead Nation, I'm aware that they brought an update (1.01) but I imagine that it addresses those having issue with the game freezing (apparently related to having too many people on one's friends list :S) - anyway I don't think I'll be getting it until they bring about voice chat.

To those who own Dead Nation does it use all of the controller inputs?
The reason I ask is that if not surely they should of considered having some sort of text bubble chat with simple lines (like "Help!" or whatever) whilst putting voice chat in post-release?

Ugh I don't know - happy gaming nonetheless,
Scar

future's so bright gotta wear shades

Fp your a mad man to justify paying more for it because it has the hard drive option and it's the future?! price point is key in all walks of life and owning assets is just as important. Ubisoft as you point out are distributing this across 2 media platforms at completely different prices, that's either got to be an error or stupidity as it costs more to release in the shops (or are sony trying to line their pockets?)
