Found 15th Oct 2012
It's back - for £22 a day trip through the wormhole!

For me, this is the only way to go to France, faster and far more comfortable.

Available by PHONE ONLY at any time but you can only book for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 13th November through to 13th December.

Please note the dates and the fact that it is only available by telephoning Eurotunnel on 0844 879 7371 (5.1p/minute) or use the "call back" form for free on the Eurotunnel site.

The fact that you can take 9 people in your vehicle is a great offer but, if you take that many people, where on earth do you put the wine and beer??
I am maybe buying a new car. I need to find out if I can change the registration once I have made a booking if I end up changing my car??
Ah...

I've changed my car / I'm taking a hire car and will not know the registration number:
Unless you have purchased Breakdown cover, the only vehicle details that we need are the vehicle type (car/van/motorcycle), the height (over or under 1.85 metres) and confirmation that it is not equipped with an LPG tank. If none of these things have changed we do not need to make any changes to your booking.

Registration numbers are not yet mandatory but do speed up the Check-in process. You can add or change a registration number at any time before travel without penalty. Please contact us on 08443 35 35 35.
if you are going to stay in France...can you book two trips and on use the one leg of each trip? Thankyou
You go into a tunnel and when you come out they say you are in France. Some people are so gullible.

No - your car registration is photographed at check-in on the way out and again when you return. If you return using another ticket, they manage to put the logged registration entries together and then charge you the full fare.

In fact, you are technically in France as soon as you pass through "immigration" on this side, quite a way before you even get to the wormhole.

Also worth bearing in mind you can use Tesco clubcard vouches for le shuttle so you could go for almost nothing !
Maybe not. It says Tesco credit and gift vouchers cannot be used. Not too sure if this includes reward vouchers.
Can you do the overnight trips - their website has £22 (per leg!) shown as day/24 hr.
Prefer to go early evening and come back the following day - breaks up the trip!
You can't used clubcard reward vouchers.............I asked today. I booked today.............£22 return. She said there was loads of availability. I managed to get out before 10am and back around 6pm! Very good deal!
Went by ferry last yr, and eurotunnel last weekend - ferry is so much more painful in terms of time taken!

Also if you turn up early for the train you can usually just get the earlier train if there is availability.

100% in agreement - going through the wormhole saves at least 3 hours on the day.
Wormhole to Dover 15 minutes, not going through Dover Terminal and dock time 20 minutes, ferry extra time 40 minutes, Calais Ferry Terminal to the A16 15 minutes = 90 minutes outbound and much the same coming back.
Is that cut price for Teachers and school children!
Probably a silly question, but any suggestions on what could possibly be done once on the other side of the wormhole, as only have 24hours before need to return.... is getting to Paris and returning back to Calais do-able?
3 1/2 hrs to Paris
and £20 Toll road
if only it was over night. oh well :-) hot.

It's doable but very tiring and you could be either side of the 3.5 hours depending on where you want to go in Paris and the traffic. Don't forget as mentioned tolls each way and parking is a nightmare.
I did this last year and it was fun. Friend and I went over and drove down the coast to the West. It will be very quiet being out of season but some interesting WWII fortifications you can stop at. We drove down to Le Touqet which is a gorgeous little town to visit. Nice to walk around and get late lunch. We then headed back up to the big shopping mall near the Eurotunnel terminal and went to the Carrefour and bought lots of wine. Then in to Calais for dinner before getting the Eurotunnel home.

If you are in the Carrefour buying wine look out for the card sleeves on wine that has won awards in a wine guide. Can't remember the name of the wine guide (hatchett??) but a chap was there buying wine for his restaurant and he said if you are not sure what to buy just look for these card sleeves around the neck and that is a good sign it will be good. He was right, bought a load at about 6-7 Euro each and they were delicious. The small belgium beers were nice too.
LOADS MORE TO DO IN 24HRS THAN RUSH TO PARIS...SAVE THAT FOR A WEEKEND!

IF YOU DONT MIND A BIT MORE OF A DRIVE HEAD OVER TO BRUGES (ABOUT AN HOUR), THATS WHAT WE DID ON OUR LAST DAY TRIP.

WE DID A WEEKEND THIS WEEKEND AND WENT TO BRUGES, CALAIS, LE TOUQUET, DUNKIRK AND BOULOGNE SUR MER IT WAS GREAT!!
