Just seen this in todays paper
Budget chain is to start selling plucked and oven ready pheasant (From UK)
The game meat is available to buy for just £3.99
This is the latest luxury good to hit the budget store's shelves
Other items have included scallops, caviar and vintage wines

The game birds have been shot on sporting estates around the West Country and are being supplied by Dorset-based DB Foods, one of Britain's largest meat processors.
The deal was organised by hunting society Taste of Game who sent out a message to all pheasant shoots in a bit to keep up with demand.

Heat added purely for the picture.

Hardly a luxury round here - they can't give them away! To be fair, though, these are plucked and ready, but I guess you'd need a brace to make a decent meal. Heat.

I am not the pheasant plucker,
I'm the pheasant plucker's mate.
I am only plucking pheasants
Because the pheasant plucker's late.

is i true that they taste like chicken that has been left on the counter … is i true that they taste like chicken that has been left on the counter too long...?

X)

When I bought some in December from my local butcher I think they were £5 a brace.

A tip: I usually pot roast pheasant but last time I decided to do what is very popular in the USA and brined them for a couple of hours and then roasted them open and quickly. Very very nice, made them more juicy and succulent.

The 'latest luxury' bit made me lol , not really hard to get hold of most good butchers will sell them in season or can get hold of them, or contact your local friendly gamekeeper
These were a staple part of my diet when I was growing up xD

My sister and I had to eat a pheasant as young children that was hung in the garage for some time. Omg it stunk and had the worst taste ever. My sister and I weren't allowed to leave the table until our plates were cleared. Luckily, our two family pet cats were hungry and enjoyed the pheasant lol !!

MRS. DOYLE: Are you looking forward to your lunch tomorrow, Father?TED: … MRS. DOYLE: Are you looking forward to your lunch tomorrow, Father?TED: Hmmm? I suppose so.MRS. DOYLE: You do like pheasant, don't you Father?TED: Pheasant? I love pheasant.MRS. DOYLE: Well there's a little clue. The thing you'll be eating likes pheasant as well.

Thanks will keep my eye out, cheaper than buying from chatsworth farm shop

Is that the new look SUN page 3 bird ? oO

It's not just any food, it's road kill food.

pheasant is lovely. normally get them from friends who shot them along with wood pigeon, snipe, rabbit etc. can't beat game.
would I pay £3.99 for them, ... probably would.

I always heard it as:

I'm not a pheasant plucker,
I'm a pheasant plucker's son.
And I won't stop plucking pheasants,
'Til the pheasant plucking's done.

How long would you poach one for?
I normally just roast one for around an hour. Roasters have to pay.

If you're a really lucky train commuter, your train may hit one and you can pick up at your next stop.

What worries me is that Shotgun "Shot" may be present.

Does anyone know what precautions are in place to check all is removed before providing it on the shelves??

Is it poaching if you shoot them in your own garden? We have lots every day!?

Best pluck it and cook it first tho eh? pretty sure you couldn't just walk up to one and catch it unless you're as athletic as a cat

Even if I could catch one, £3.99 is a fair price to catch it, pluck it, cut it up and separate the bits, clean it and wrap it in a packet with try ready for the oven.

Pluck it yes. These can be fluffy on the pallet if not. Very stupid animals and you can just walk up the some of them. I often have them in my garden. They are poor fliers so try to avoid it. X) Never had the guts to eat one though.

Voted Hot, good price for a supermarket

Agree tis a fair price. Just have to factor in your broken tooth when you chomp down on a pellet X)

Sexy Bird

Looks like it's ready for a lot more than the oven! Heat+

That pheasant reminds me of my ex wife just off the sun bed.

Raisins with a horse hair through the middle are supposed to work, they stand still and try to clear their throats, that's when you run up and wring their necks.

Pheasant priced for a peasant. Hot deal I like it

Don't let it worry you.... people have been eating shot for years and it does no harm. It will likely contain a warning that it may contain shot.

You want to be more worried about the yellow fat - steer clear of that! Tastes v.strong.
