Sometime people put their old graphics cards in warehouse returns. I once got a 970 in a 1080 box.

"Used"

With my luck it would be one of those Amazon horror story's.

Card arrives, its a 980 and been swapped out by a scum bag who purchased and returned it.
I bought this one new from amazon for 608

Don't they check the items when you return ?

It can happen, but at least you are dealing with Amazon.

They check the contents, But if the last person swapped the stickers over and the item looks the same an everyday warehouse worker won't know the difference unfortunately.

Are there no repercussions for doing that?
Surely it's not difficult for Amazon to track down the person who returned that particular item? Right?

No Idea as I have never done it but I've read a lot of storys regarding people receiving the "Wrong" item.

I can understand why people end up with the wrong item as warehouse staff can't be experts in every item but whoever is committing this sort of fraud surely must know that ultimately they can't get away with it.

Yup, as the item gets delivered to your address and purchased using your card details. I'd hope they get caught.
