Hi

Im after a wacker plate to level my garden not after a petrol heavy duty thing just soil, sand and some hardcore. Im told this is great for what i need it for.

Has anyone used these before?

I think its a great price and if you use it a few times its paid for itself (instead of hiring)

Good points are no messing with petrol and whenthey dont kick up etc

Plug and play with this :-)

Any advice would be great

Thanks

I bought one of these a couple years ago at pretty much the same price. Worked a treat to compact ground for laying down patio. You can also buy a rubber mat to go with it for tampering on actual slabs. I would advise putting some oil or wd40 sprayed on the plate to stop from things sticking to it and easy to clean. I sold mine on ebay after I finished with it for about £120! :-)

Thats what im thinking of doing very good tool to do the job and regain most of the money back i surpose cement mixers are the same :-)

Purchased one of these a couple of months ago (landscaping garden) used to compact and level off a lot of type 1, pretty impressed no mess no fuss easy to clean altough my only complaint would be because the cord is long and rubberised it becomes easily twisted and hard to untangle.

I paid about £160 when it was last on offer @ screwfix altough it is currently £199 so I guess this is a deal.

How does this do on hardcore/crushed bricks? I have an area to compact out the back garden and a new hard stand out the front, have a feeling this may be a bit light for that.

Yep not hardcore I'm afriad (pun intended) would advise nothing chunkier then type 1.

could I use this to wack her..

Unless you are in the trade i.e landscape gardener / patio / driveway layer I think this would be used rarely once or twice if that - hire shops for this kind of gear is the way to go.

I would suggest it's ok for lightweight jobs as it is only rated at 5kN. It's strength is when you want to prepare a base for concrete indoors where you don't want the fumes of a petrol powered plate.
For several years I have had the heavier petrol version, rated optimistically at 10kN, which has given results that compared well with a vibrating roller hired for a large job.
For compacting good quality bases this should be fine proving you take it slow and make several passes. Also good I expect for settling blocks where a petrol wacker plate can be liable to crack them.

I think that's the OP'S idea though. Use it a few times then wack it on ebay and get back most of what you paid for it. Cheaper and less hassle than a hire shop.

Very good price but unless you need it right now not something to buy and store I'd say

wouldn't bother, not as powerful as hired version and your sub base is the most important part of a patio, type 1 doesn't take that long to barrow through and wack in layers, day at most. just hire for the day less hassle
