Amazon.co.uk Review :-
Long Way Round is a documentary detailing the 20,000-mile motorcycle trip Ewan McGregor took around the world with best friend Charley Boorman over 115 days. Their trip took them from London through locales such as Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, and Canada, to name a few, before ending in New York. Armed with a cameraman, McGregor and Boorman encounter separation anxiety from their families; a shifty stranger (later revealed to be Mafia) who leads them through winding dark corridors to a posh hotel room; delays at international borders; hosts who offer them animal parts for dinner; injuries, equipment breakdowns, and more.

The pair also film their own video diaries, in which they voice concerns and frustrations. The result is an emotional, rich breadth of experiences, from the hardship of logistical setbacks paired with the joy of visiting the children of Chernobyl and encountering hospitable locals who insist on escorting them wherever they go. McGregor and Boorman also make witty emcees, cheerfully upbeat even when they wonder aloud if one of their gun-happy hosts is a psycho murderer. The seven-episode series concludes with their emotional ride into the Big Apple and some surprises for the pair courtesy of the show's producers. Long Way Round may have been an arduous once-in-a-lifetime experience, but you can't help but hope McGregor and Boorman suit up for another road trip someday. -- Ellen A. Kim

Seen this a while ago and thought it was brilliant. This is LESS than half the price I paid for it! Voted HOT.

I was given this as a gift, I really liked it, now going to buy a couple more copies as gifts, thanks for the heads up

Heroic tale of two intrepid pioneers and a back-up team of 37....that's vehicles, not people:-D

Excellent series, really enjoyed it. £5.99 for the 3 disc special edition is a complete bargain.

People always bring up the support team (2-3 4x4s from what I remember) as a reason why they didn't like the show. That always seems odd to me :?. If you're traveling around the world on motorbikes and you're filming the whole thing for dvd/tv etc + keeping to a strict schedule, I don't think it's that surprising they needed a support crew. Besides they mostly only meet up with the support at boarder crossing etc. And the problems the support crew run into makes for a more interesting series IMO.

Priceless:thumbsup:

Let's see you guys do it alone with a camcorder then.

They ought to do it again using Vespa's instead of bmw's, watch as it takes the heroic duo take 3 months & 15 engines to get from London to Dover:)

Still loved the series though, much better than Long way down

half the programs on tv have some celebrity engaging in some self indulgent activity.. this just happens to be a very entertaining..

@grex9101: I find Ewan McGregor very down to earth compared to most hollywood types, id like to know why you think hes got his head up his ars*?

i paid a £5 delivered for this ages ago from HMV, this is the best price ive seen since

the people who mocked this why????? you sit there and moan but none of you would do it or COULD do it . the most yourve done is make it to your fridge :-D

This deal is sorta hot - been that price before and it's an old release although very watchable - this being the special edition so more content than the TV broadcast.

The 1st "Long Way" series was actually quite good. In order to film such a journey with the people involved - you need a support crew. It's certainly not impossible to do the journey without it but we're talking about 'film stars' here and industry execs simply wouldn't allow them to ****** off on BMW's for 6/12 months on their own, it wouldn't be insurable for a start

The 2nd series however was indeed nothing more than self promotion for both of the 'stars' although I thought the 'cuts' with CB in did not show his better side... The latest journey, "By Any Means", was a lot better than "Long Way Down" - certainly helped to not have half the episodes with moaning about the schedule and the rest talking up the wife

I much preferred the "Charley Boorman - Ireland to Australia by any means" series. I felt it was more about the countries than the presenters.
Plus it seemed to include more of the wonderful scenary rather than pictures of BMW's.

Ummm... This is NOT the point here .... but hey if you want to get personal.... saddos.

I really enjoyed this series, but i'm a lifelong biker so i enjoy watching anything bike related.
As for people slaggin them off just because they had a support crew, well i think there may just be a bit of the green eyed monster there. Even with a support crew, riding those sorts of miles, many of them in gruelling off road terrain, is not for the faint hearted.
Hot for this deal.

I'd love to do this sort of trip. I have lived abroad, travelled Asia. Someone said something about most of us couldn't do it. I could, I'd love to. Problem is you come back here and get bogged down with mortgages, families, jobs you daren't leave and then you're dead!

Somebody else said about self indulgent stars. yes, all these celebrities being jetted off to America, Australia, all the corners of the earth, annoying...wish it was me!

Ditto. I've visited quite a few countries in my time (much of central America) and I've just come back from a month (& a bit) in South Asia and actually did all the countries (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia) that Charley went to in Episode 5 of Ireland to Sydney. Watching that episode brought it all back even though I had only been back for a week.

But having said all of that I do like to go to the fridge every so often.

2 dvd set is £2 cheaper at £4.99 at HMV as well hmv.com/hmv…423

Whats the difference between this special edition and the 2 dvd set?

EDIT: Found it - This is the extended version with 10 episodes rather than seven

agreed was a bit disappointed with the latest series as they didnt film much about the country they were in....shame...first was great though...maybe do a 3rd but spend more time in each country

brilliant find , hot thanks

Loved this series & bought at a similar price last year.

Love bikes & travel - I have respect for Ewan for completing what was a helluva journey. (It never pretended the support crew werent there & their journey was part of the story too).

I certainly didnt get the impression he was up himself. Given the position hes in I thought he came off as pretty well grounded.

Well worth the cash & the 10ish hour time investment to watch.

Agree that Long Way Down wasnt as enjoyable - too rushed.

In summary - HOT.

Well I thought it was a good series anyway!!:p
