Looking for Sat Nav after an irate phone call from the wife, and I stumbled across this. Seemed like a great deal with lifetime map updates.

"With free lifetime map updates for the UK and Ireland"

had a look around surrounding area and seems to be quite a few in stock

I picked a 2598 for a ton yesterday

Great price for a 5" but that silly little cartoon car would just annoy me.

Just ordered. Thanks

plenty of free alternatives in the Garmin downloads

This is price on Amazon UK, but there's some user reviews on there, which may or may not be useful >

I haven't found any professional reviews of this unit yet.

Closest I've found is for the 6" model, which more than likely has the same feature set as this model >

How does the lifetime map updates work? Could I buy this sat nav and use the free updates on another Garmin that I already have?

Buy a moto G for £90, download free open source mapping worldwide with lifetime updates that are very frequent, and youve got yourself a 5" HD satnav.

You need to have data on to use satnav on a mobile(could be wrong). So not only are u paying £40 more.. you're also spending money on data.

none in Cheltenham

Just picked mine up from Halfords in Plymouth. They gave me a brand new Garmin Nuvi 55LM at the same price. Well done halfords and thanks op! (_;)

Well after finding the deal, the missus was not happy. She like TomTom . . even though I think Garmin has better accuracy, she prefers the TT. So going to take mine back unless anyone on here wants it?

I had a call from them this morning to say they had not got the one I reserved, They offered me the number of another local store but I suggested that they should be phoning to sort it not me. They agreed to do this and phoned me back to say the other store only had the display one the same as them and were not allowed to sell that until instructed to do so by head office . They said that they could not understand how it ever got on the website to start with at which point the phone cut off, they either put the phone down or I lost the signal I was on a noisy train at the time so did not bother to call them back. I am not sure I believe them and may pop into the store tomorrow to check if there is one on display

got mine in East Kilbride today, seems like a good unit. Cheers OP

Nope you don't need data. As i mentioned clearly in the post, you download the free open source maps.

True. Some smart phones are so reasonably priced - you miss my point that there is so much flexibility in new tech that standalone satnavs should now be obsolete. There is a reason why I didn't suggest an iPhone with it being £500+, but if you are able to spend on £50 on something to sit in your glove box, £90 for a smartphone with lots of other worthwhile features shouldn't be dismissed.

In Your opinion. I personally prefer a standalone satnav

Seems the customer service must vary from store to store as I was given a brand new Nuvi 55LM instead of an ex-display 52.

I picked mine up at the weekend, Was brand new - Cheers OP!!
