I have been looking at this Freesat box for ages. It has excellent reviews. Massive bonus is the built in WIFI. £40 cheaper than anywhere else. Humax will give you 2 years free guarantee. You just need to register within 30 days of purchase. You can also get 1% cash back via topcashback for click and collect. Not a 50% savings but if you are moving away from Sky, it is a great alternative.

Good price. Was looking at getting one of these myself after cancelling Sky a couple of months ago and missing the ability to live pause/ rewind / record. This stopped working on my Sky box immediately after cancelling but a couple of days ago just seems to have started working again...anyone know if Sky have made this functionality free on their boxes recently?

Hi,

Sky charge £10/month for this functionnality. Be careful, when I cqncelled my multiroom, it was still working and I thought Xmas came early until i noticed the chage on my account. Thankfully, they recorded my conversation at the time and had to refund me as I specified that I did not want to keep it if it was not free. Just keep an eye on yoir bank account...

Great product. Shame about the colour.

Not the best but it goes well with the rest of my kitchen appliances.. LOL:D

I cancelled Sky in December and brought one of these. I have been really pleased with it and wouldn't go back.

I am trying to cancel my main sky but keep broadband and line rental as they are very reliable. They just told me I can keep the lot for £5 cheaper than line rental and broadband on its own... Internet is very important in our house and we tried a few ISP. Only Sky was able to deliver a reliable service for some reason... It just shows how much money is being made if they can give you over 100% discount on your TV package.

I bought one from Amazon earlier for the same price.

Still at that price available for order, but out of stock, will deliver when available.

Just in case anyone has issues with buying from currys

Wish they'd do that for us! I've been talking to them not bothered at all very take it or leave it attitude

They are aware of people "cancelling" in order to get a cheap deal so that old trick doesn't always work nowadays. They WILL let you cancel with little fuss, but as soon as you get close to your end date (30days from cancellation), they should call you to tempt you back.

They were the same with my fiber, I called them to ask them to match BT, they refused, so I told them I would got to BT. They were all nonchalant until I asked for my MAC and all of a sudden, they put me through to "cancellations" (retention team), who miraculously COULD match BT... I even made them better the deal for messing me around

I am with you on this one. I asked for my MAC right away. Immediately they tried the "this is great sky TV" approach. Asking me about what I watch, I replied Sky 1 and comedy central (available on NowTV!!!). To be fair I was nor bluffing as I did my research and told them this is how much Plusnet will charge me, if you want me to stay, try to match it. Worst case scenario, you get freesat drom Sky.

I cancelled Sky to see if I could get a better deal, but nothing came. BB and TV cancelled. BB now with BT and TV on Enigma box - no going back ;-). PVR, pause rewind and lots of other 'features' too. Just google Enigma sat receiver. A bit techy, but well worth it. Loads of free to air channel available.

I did the same a couple of years back now, and still wouldn't change back, The Humax box is excellent.

I have the 500GB version of this box for 2-3 years now. It is excellent, most reliable freeview box ever had, and had a few, but the cheapos always crash or need formatted or just stop working. Not with a Humax! It sacrifices a little on the fancy features, like no zooming in when paused for example, but if you want a reliable stable box this is the one. The major downside it it has a good interface, but it never gets updated and I mean ever. Despite having update features, humax just neglect this. The YouTube is pants, hardly plays a video. The BBCI played is very good, but there is no ITV catch up, 4 on Demand, or 5 Catch up etc.

I have had zero crashes with my Humax. That counts for a lot.

Has anyone found these to not be as reliable to its predecessor? I've been through one and my dad is on his 3rd, all faults related to hard drive failure.

I'm impressed with the machine but my older model (foxsat) didn't miss a beat in the 5 years I owned it

I should correct my last post as the deal URL lists the feature:-
BBC iPlayer & ITV Player & 4oD & Demand 5

Definetly worth getting!

I’ve had a Humax Foxsat for quite some time too. I’d never recommend a Humax to anyone no matter how much I hate that person. Each time we sit down to ‘enjoy’ some television, it’s the most infuriating and enraging experience imaginable. The unbelievably irritating remote control simply does not do what it should. It ignores me for most of the presses, then decides to do a few unwanted presses that were pressed some time back. It’s the single point of intersection between the user and the technology and this company demonstrates that they really do not care about the user side of the equation, preferring to irritate, annoy and anger the user, each time it is used. Each day. Each evening. Each occasion. Every single time I have used this annoying POS it gets me infuriated. The next day, the same. The next day, the same. This has been going on for the past several years. It looks like it may continue. It’s been doing the same thing today — I was perfectly happy and at peace until I used the Humax again. I hate it, and I hate Humax, for hating me. Never buy a Humax — it will infuriate.

For this price you could get a Technomate or VU+ box which would potentialy give you a lot more than freesat.

I'd never NOT buy a Humax - no problems in nearly 6 years. Remote works fine.

Same here. Freeview, not Freesat, but it works perfectly all the time. Wouldn't be without it.

Just a note regarding the unresponsive remote on the Foxsat. Check that you have removed the plastic film on both sides of the front panel. There is one on the front but another one to remove when you open the front panel. Secondly, don't try to use the remote before the machine has been on for a few minutes. If you attempt to use it too fast it won't work properly and will continue to be unresponsive. Give it a try!

It has a few HD channels, CBBC HD, BBC HD, some other ones too can't think of possibly, but can't check at moment as wife is watching something.

I am going to cancel Sky. Not cheap or worth the money for me. Torn between this (though not too keen on the colour) and a BT Youview box.

It has standard FTA HD channels - 10 iirc, No C5, E4 ITV2/3/4 not to mention any Sky Channels.

does anyone know if you need an aerial with this?

We have 3 humax boxes in Our house, cant fault them

I actually went for an echostar box when I ditched sky.

If it's freesat you won't need an aerial you just take the satellite receiver cables from you sky box and plug them into the new freesat box.

But my reason for posting is to ask of others experience of cancelling sky. I found they were borderline harassing me, agreeing not to call again and two days later ringing up.

I had to bar their number in the end to stop them ringing me.

You need a sat dish!

I really want one of these but sky keep giving me the TV part of my package to me for free whenever I try to cancel, plus line rental for 9.99.

Is it wrong that I still feel like I'm missing out!

I have bt youview box it's brill if connected to internet you get on demand ,plus netflix on my one

Looks like a good price for a decent bit of kit.
I've just canceled sky and am using a combination if now tv, freeview and Netflix for half the cost! When I rang to cancel sky offered to reduce my subscription by £15 per month! But by that point my mind was made up

Heat from me. Shame they didn't reduce the black one as well, would of ordered one.

Sky need a steady number of suscribers to their TV service to demand higher advertising revenues. They make next to nothing on providing the TV service but an absolute killing on the advertising side.

Same price at richer sounds who will deliver for free and give you 6 years cover for £19 m.richersounds.com/!/product/HUMA-FREESAT-HDR1010

free to air, yes.

Humax are great, set "record all series" and it gets em all, even if there's a 6 month break in between episodes
