Hot. Wow! So tempted!!

I can get it for £805 from JL through work but they only give a 5 year warranty.

£799 from RS with 6 years sounds sweet but I genuinely don't know where to purchase from with regards to quality of after sales service.

I've bought various Hifi equipment from RS over the years and they have always been top notch with their after sales. JL are also very good though, but for an extra year and a cheaper price RS wins for me unless you don't have one local to you.
Wow this a real good deal.
hot fantastic tv. i brought one 3 wks ago.
Very good deal
this tv does not have HDR even though it says it on richer sounds, if you look for others selling this tv , no mention of HDR. tv's with this tend to be at least 1500
it does have some form of hdr with a firmware update, I don't know how they explained it, about nits or something

What is the JL staff discount these days?

Sorry mate I don't work for JL but I get 5% off through my work corporate benefits. Still not sure whether I should buy from JL or RS.
After sales with Richer Sounds has always been superb for me over the years....and I have bought lots of gear off them.

Spec sheet is correct for out of the box TV. The latest firmware update will give the TV HDR for Netflix and Amazon Video, it doesn't work with HDR Bluray as it's missing the colour space spec.

Some people are calling it HDR lite, not quite full HDR. Purists probably wouldn't call it HDR as the set wasn't released with the full HDR range. I'm sure someone with more technical knowledge can expand on this.

Challenge RS on false advertising if it truly can't be classed as HDR. I think this is a good deal either way.

Oh really? How do I set my quidco up for this?
phoned curry's to see if they will price mat h as I bought this for £849 on Saturday, the guy at know-how said they wouldn't. I will now have to pop off to the ship to cancel the delivery and get a refund.
Gaming
Our Leo Bodnar input lag tester returned a figure of 35ms from the Sony KD-55X8505 in [Game] mode. Whilst not as responsive as the UHD models from Samsung (this year’s undisputed leader in churning out low-lag televisions), this should still be fast enough for all but the most demanding of twitch gamers.
If you look at the other thread Currys I asked this question as regard to HDR light and there's a very good explanation if you are interested!

I do not work for Sony, but have been following this model closely. Here … I do not work for Sony, but have been following this model closely. Here is what I believe is meant by 'HDR Light'.The X850-Series have the new firmware which makes these sets HDR compliant. They can play HDR content with the correct colour-range but lack the brightness/contrast of the 2016 range that are "Full HDR".The contrast on these sets is around 3-400 nits compared to around 1000 nits on the 2016 models. So yes, they will play HDR (very well actually) but not quite as good as the newer models which look brighter which in turn will make the colours more vibrant.

So tempted..
The price for this is falling to 'ridiculously tempting' levels now.....

I suspect they are clearing stock for the replacement 55XD8599 which again is not full HDR (but is twice the price) - the new one does, however, have an IPS panel I believe (good viewing angles, blacks not superb), whereas this is VA (worse viewing angles, better blacks)

It will do HDR via uhd blu rays, the firmware update also included hdmi 2.0a support.

I can confirm it does have HDR; there was a firmware update earlier this year which enabled it. I have two, and the picture quality is phenomenal for the price!

Yeah went with RS +1% quidco. If I was in your situation I'd do the same. A cheaper price + an extra years guarantee.

Now if you were able to get a price match with JL at £799 and could deduct your 5% discount off of that then JL all the way. Keep us posted

I'm not sure I could, unless I purchased it through the work referral portal at £849 first and then submitted a price match claim after taking delivery providing RS were still selling at £799 in a couple weeks time.

Not sure if it's worth the risk. I'm happy to spend £799 at this point I may just have to flip a coin.
