Seems a good deal for a 2016 flagship. Specs still hold up today and for £200 (approx £250 if you get hit with customs charges) it seems a bargin.

Highlights of the specification include, QHD AMOLED screen (daydream ready), Dolby Atmos sound (front facing speakers and DAC for 3.5mm headphone jack), OTA update to android 7, 21mp camera with OIS and EIS, UFS 2.0 storage, and the all important band 20 LTE.

Downsides are buying from Hong Kong so no warranty. In terms of specs no waterproofing or dust protection and being a year old the processor and screen ratio is not cutting edge.

Use code zteaxon7 for lower price

The negatives I've read about this phone are bad phone & wifi signal, …The negatives I've read about this phone are bad phone & wifi signal, camera not great (actually a 16mp pixel sensor upscaled to 20mp?), no IR, no apt-X bluetooth, and no capacitive navigation buttons (international version). Anyone confirm/deny these?

(this reviewer says he has a Developer version, which doesn't have capactive buttons, at 0:57)
"...That 4GB version in the video review is the same as all the others. The only difference is that it lacks capacitive buttons, which were added after many people requested the feature, and because in ZTE's earlier previews of the phone, there was one such preview that had capacitive buttons.
The phones sent out to reviewers before release lacked the feature. ZTE only decided to add the feature at the last minute."

*Note that the capacitive buttons don't illuminate, which a lot of people complain about, but I'm sure you'll work on muscle memory after a while. You can swap around the buttons from left-handed to right-handed use to make it more Samsung-like (mentioned below, at 0:30 - lots of great Tips on this video - also Gestures - think of the Moto G flick to the put Flashlight on, etc - Voice Control, Display, Security options, Toggles, Widgets, Camera discussed in depth etc)

At 17:00 the reviewer below says the Axon 7 (European version) has some sort of volume limit, around 40% less volume, via headphones, but all other versions are fine. I'm pretty sure the Axon Elite suffered a similar fate.

At 19:35 VoloKin Project recommends using Open Camera (never tried that one, I usually use Vignette) over the stock camera app.

Unfortunately, seems the Global version likely does have the volume limitation.

"Hardware-wise, the three models (A2017(Chinese) , A2017U(US) and A2017G(Global)) are banded differently, and support different cellular connections. For example, the US and China models have CDMA support, while the Global model is not banded for CDMA. The three models have differing LTE bands as well (US model tailored to LTE bands used in North America, Global model tailored to bands used in Europe/Asia, etc).

Software-wise, they're pretty similar, but there are some differences. For example, the Global model has lowered audio output (compared to US model) potentially due to EU regulations. On the flip-side, the Global model has a special menu option for "Glove Mode", to make the phone easier to use when you're wearing gloves, which is omitted from the US model. The US model has an included theme called "Stock Android", which is missing from the China and Global models. The China model does not come with Google Play services by default, because China.

Support-wise, ZTE USA has a community forum that employees participate in to answer questions and whatnot, as does ZTE China. ZTE Europe, however, does not seem to, and can only be contacted via phone/email.

Someone here on XDA was able to flash the Global model's ROM on a US model, but had to specifically flash the US model's modem in order to get cellular working. However, it might have been because the US model can be bootloader unlocked, so the US model can be flashed with other ROMs. The Global and China models don't have official bootloader unlock yet (I'm not entirely sure if the unofficial method posted here on XDA works on the Global and China models) ."

*The European version was supposed to have an unlocked bootloader at some point forum.xda-developers.com/sho…231

Deal-breaker for me as I listen to music a lot on my phones (Edit: Turns out all is not lost. See my comment at the bottom).

"
If you buy the international version of the Axon 7, it's different. A lot."

Comments on XDA suggest that if you want support for the "G" version ZTE Germany would provide the support, so probably best consulting their forums for relevant chatter (ZTE UK doesn't have a forum or any mention of the Axon 7, only the Mini) translate.google.co.uk/tra…rch

ZTE US Forums community.zteusa.com/dis…-hd has one comment by pnr2016 says who says it doesnt have AptX, as no ZTE products are listed on the AptX site (?).

The last comment by DoppelgangerD contradicts that by saying, "Yep, Axon7 has AptX, but not AptX HD. AptX is still very nice on it's own."

How to install Nougat 7 (though not sure which version of Android this will ship with - this video is from 22nd March):

^^This update makes the Fingerprint Reader more responsive, Display menu tweaks, minor camera updates/a little faster (though the reviewer, VoloKin Project, still recommends Open Camera)...and improves the headphone output!! Yay!!

Pleased to say the zteaxon7 code appears to be working again - as at 18:45 on Thu 9/11 ie Gold cut to mid £170s.
And Quidco offered £2.50 bonus when spending £10+ today, and Gearbest is 4% quidco too!

I'm not clear yet whether there is a single "A2017G" globally or variants specific to territories/regions/continents and what Gearbest HongKong despatches are, but the A2017G has, per ZTE Germany, just this week had Nougat 7.1.1 with Security Patches to 1 Oct 17 released as B08 ROM update both OTA and on their website.

One thing - for those who haven't used "British Expres" before, the tracking will say "Status: Good. On Track Your parcel will be with us soon" until it arrives in the UK and is scanned by Yodel picking it up from the freight forwarder.

Hot for price, cold for seller...
Brilliant handset. got the EU version from Amazon.it, which includes warranty and also under the VIP service covers a free screen replacement within 6 months
Good price indeed. not bought anything from gearbest but I guess you got to be prepared for customs charges. It still has a high resolution though I am not sure what a cutting edge ratio would be for today phones. Not sure any of the manufacturers stick to any sort of ratio at this moment. One of the key points on this phone is supposedly the audio chip on it. The camera is not going to be amazing but will do the job. Think this has snapdragon 820 cpu in it which will be fine for most people. For the price though it is a very good phone. Just note that you probably will get no updates on OS.

I'm currently typing this message on this phone. Got mine roughly a year from hk and it's been great. Granted it sees a few slow down but I've not been true to a full wipe, install new android and etc. Just download and install android when updates come about. I have noticed my microphone does crap out after one phone call and then I have to do a reset but not had the chance to do a full reset yet. The phone itself is still fast and nippy, good screen, good audio. Battery life has depleted since overall usage but for the price I paid for it about a year ago £325 it's still done well and not paid £400+ for a flagship phone.
Excellent phone. Camera is great. Taken quite a few good pics with it. Sound via headphones and speakers probably best I've come across on any phone (Dolby Atmos). Mine was 64gb with dual SIM. Screen is great, amoled I believe ( need some to confirm). Cracking deal for a solid device.

Bugg3r, just paid £200 for a 2nd hand g5
Will I have to install the play store? Otherwise looks a great buy to replace my G2
Will this phone work ok on all the UK networks?
ztedevice.com/pro…N-7

The A2017G does. Could be the Global Version.

The best way to avoid customs is to not by products from outside of the EU.
I'm after a mid-budget phone with a bigger screen than my current Huawei P9 and was almost set on the Xiaomi Mi A1.....then this turns up.

For £180 (Inc insurance) it's too good to miss. Great specs plus B20 for my current 02 contract.

It will be sad to see the P9 go but this looks a worthy replacement.

Thanks OP. I'll hopefully receive my order in time for Christmas.....2018.
Plus £8.83 tracked already in TCB.
Will the phone be usable out of the box? Or will i need to install the Play Store? Thanks

Yea I get that but the alluring price difference direct from china has me wondering. I would have already gone for it if the battery was a bit bigger and just risked it.
Not many people in the UK know about this phone, but it's got the best overall headphone output and speaker output according to this (and several other sources) , for £175! I'm quite excited to get hold of mine to try with my new Philips X2's I got on a recent deal here, my HTC One M8 doesn't do a bad job, but needs more power.
Kinda regretting getting the Leeco Le Max 2 for £167 the other day
Waiting to see how much the axom m will be. Really interesting concept phone.
Ive ordered, coudnt resist at £180.
I'm in on this, for the money the spec looks superb, and ticks all of the boxes I need it to. Was tempted at the cheaper Redmi Note 4 for £40 less, but the beautiful screen, audio, camera, and cpu performance of this blows that away even if it's an older model. These still go for £250 plus 2nd hand on ebay !! Thanks OP
First time ive ordered from China. Hope ive made the right choice
Heated op, amazing deal with code
Great device and real steal at the price despite being a 2016 device. 2017 mid ranged device don't get anywhere near this at the same price.
I don't need it but at the price tempted, very tempted.
Does this have NFC? Can't see mention of it on Gearbest specification, but other sites seem to suggest it does
Have this phone for a year, it's been excellent and in many aspects better than current models released recently. It is also daydream compatible

Yeah it does have NFC.

Using this phone and absolutely brilliant at this price. Dual front facing speakers just make watching any content so much better. Great amoled display at 1440p. What more could you ask for?
ZTE Axon 7 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 vs LeEco Le Max 2

Quite surprised this hasn't got hotter, seems a fantastic deal for the price - better specs than the much vaunted Xiaomi Mi A1, for the same price. What am I missing? Most reviews (from last year) compare it favourably to the SGS7 and it's half the price and then some of a new S7.

Have taken a punt anyway but just to temper my expectations a bit, gimme some negatives!

As far as I have read even the camera low light performance, it's one questionable attribute, has been improved by software updates.
Coupon has expired. Any other codes going?
@ump001 the code is still working I tried it myself and is fully working.
How long do they take to deliver? Approximately. I can't wait for mine to arrive.
