Well there are already newer ones out, the iPod Touch is currectly at its 4th generation. Improvements over the 3rd gen include a retina display with 4x the resolution and a processor at double the speed. Still, if you only want a very stylish MP3 player with a handful of games then this will do the trick, but if you're really into apps you will want the 4th gen (or later when they come out).

I'll think I'll still wait it out. There still still some life left in my 1st gen iPod touch.

Talk about drip feading us!

the 4th gen (latest sept 2010) with the retina display is fantastic. its worth spending a bit more and get ting the new one.

it really is an improvement, but it's not as much of an improvement as it seems on that pic. For starters, no one (and I mean no one) is going to be able to see every single pixel on such a small surface area over an extended period of time. Second, the viewing angle is really poor compared to the iPhone 4, if you're playing a tilt-intensive game like Super Monkey Ball you're bound to be playing in blue-ish tints.

Well pointing out, using the same much enlarged scale as above even newspaper printed picture is full of big dots , which is obviously not the case when reading at its normal distance and scale.

I thought the viewing angles were the same with 4th Gen Touch as they have the same displays.

The 4th gen touch still has the same TN panel as the rest of the iPod touch series and didn't get an IPS one like the iPhone 4, the viewing angles aren't nearly as good nor is colour reproduction. The only similarity between the two displays is the resolution.

To make it look as bad as that image I'd have to hold my 3g so close my nose is touching the screen. Even the retina one looks a bit ropey in that pic. Besides it's hardly a bit more it's over 50% more isn't it?

The Retina display has 4x the resolution than the regular ipod touch (regular 480 x 320, retina 960 x 640). That being said, it does not look 4x better although there is a significant improvement.

I meant the price is about 50% more for the 4g seems more than a bit

Still showing as available with 7 in stock at this time - I'm tempted to buy but I'm strapped!

Very good price, but the 4g is a big improvement. Maybe wait until the 5g is released and then buy a cheaper 4g! X)
