I found this when I went to Tesco Homeplus in Telford today. I went to get one of the £1.99 bargain HDMI cables posted previously, but they were price at £5.97! This was by the PS3 stuff and not by the rest of the audio/visual cables. Its an Exspect Gold plated 2m HDMI V1.3 cable, part no EX008. Says its optimised for the PS3 but you can use it with any HDMI device (I've used iton my Toshiba HD player). The Tesco value ones did look cheap and tacky next to this one but yer pays yer money! Description from Play.com website (where its £14.99):

Maximise your gaming experience with this HDMI lead! Advanced cable technology gives you highest quality audio and video signal - up to 1080p resolution support! With 2 metres of cable you're not limited!

nice one

Not a bad price for a sturdy 2m HDMI cable, but I must stress to anybody who still doesn't get it :-

PS3 Optimised - meaningless, all HDMI cables work with PS3
1080p resolution support - meaningless, all HDMI works with 1080p
Gold Plated - Oh dear, it appears all my non-gold connectors are corroding to the point that they're useless... oh wait, they're not, even after 20 years...

Hot deal but fed up with this garbage.

Exactly, HDMI cables pass a digital signal, it either works or it doesn't, there's no quality difference between cables. It's only passing a bunch of 1's and 0's after all!

makes you wonder how retailers can get away with charging £40-£50 for a HDMI cable - wonder who the hell would pay that

can people stop posting HDMI cables to cause arguements?

Gold plated isnt just about quality, it is a softer metal so can deform as it is inserted into the socket meaning you get slightly better grip, Worth it ... maybe not. but if its going then why not.

NOt sure about the fact that all HDMI cable can do 1080p guys! From my experience and several friends this just isn`t true!

I dare you to guess how much actual 'gold' is added in the form of plating.

These things really only make a difference on analogue signals well over anything digital.

BTW I was only quoting the manufacturers spec and not endorsing the fact that the features make any difference to performance. Its their 'garbage' not mine

AS stated the £1.99 'bargain' ones I went looking for were actually £5.97 and these were, on the face of it, a better build quality anyway (and don't use that to quote that it makes no difference, it does when the thing falls apart! If you read the Tesco £1.99 cable thread some people had duff ones any way).

There are differant standards of hdmi cables, not all are able to transfer the bandwidth required for 1080p plus dolby hd.. most these days (even the cheapy ones) are ver 1.3 though which is fine..

Well I can tell you my gold plated kettle boils water faster and the water tastes a lot better. Also my gold plated watch tells the time more acurately than any cheap non-gold plated watch, and my gold plated keyboard lead sends the signal perfectly to my computer so that is surely proof enough that gold plated items are better! The extra £50 for the kettle, £300 for the watch and £25 extra for the keyboard lead was well worrth it as I save hours waiting for the kettle to boil, I'm always on time for my train and I naver type any spilling mistakes on my keybourd.

Frank
PS: Yes, I know it's the lowest form of wit. lol

with analouge signals gold plated cables mattered more cuz of interference etc. with HDMI they're all the same, like somebody said before its all 0s and 1s, theyres either a signal or none at all

Sadly, my neighbour did. The reptile who served him at Comet (or some such) eased him of ~£50 for their gold plated hyer-mega-super-bigboy cable. I know the shop guy was earning a living, but giving "advice" that that cable was really what the old guy needed seems pretty low to me.

Thats nothing. I've heard them talking little old ladies into buying £600 HD lcd tv's because of the digital switchover, when a £20 freeview box would have done them. Talking about Currys, but probably goes for all high st electrical retailers. I still feel guilty now about walking off without saying anything, but its the sales people that should feel guilty for mis-selling.

I went into Currys yesterday and their most expensive HDMI lead was £99! AND just to prove they were 'worth it' they had three idential TVs connected up with supposedly different priced HDMI leads and the picture quality reflecting the £99 to be superior. :x

One display was overly bright, the other was too dark and the £99 was nearly perfect. :whistling:. I heard the sales pitch too and felt physically sick, thinking about that £95 being wasted. Naturally I had to take the customer aside and advise him accordingly. :santa:

carnt seem to find this online, can some one point me in right direction please?

Scart is better as it has 21 pins instead of just 1 doesn't take a genius to work out ;-)
