Can't really prove that can we? Unless we get the serial number of the drive and get access to apple's database.

Actually no, my son once ran a tech blog/YouTube channel reviewing PC …Actually no, my son once ran a tech blog/YouTube channel reviewing PC stuff and he got sent a stack of these types of drives from various Amazon sellers to review and each and every one was a new caddy with a random refurbed drive inside, some had 6 month old cream of the crop drives and some were 8 years old and on their last legs. I can't stress enough, you have no idea what you are going to get inside one of these other than it isn't an Apple drive and it certainly isn't going to be new.


What do you recommend instead? Buy a caddy and buy a new ODD? Or are there complete unit you can trust?

Both, really. I use a PC and various family members use PCs or Macs.

I have a samsung drive that is supposed to Mac compatible but it clearly isn't. I gave up and go to a shop whenever I need a disc copied.

I was just about to suggest an external Blu Ray drive as being better value but they're over £100 now! I'm sure the one in front of me was no more than £20, second-hand internals or not.

Yeah they used to be about £18 on ebay. Basically made out of all the scrap WEE sent from the EU then reimported by us lol.

Do people really still use CDs?
