what brand are they?

not sure I'd trust that much data on such a cheap unknown device. Hot but you could get seriously burned if it effs up.

Hot regardless of the brand,usb3 ,1tb absolute bargain.

Wouldn't risk it.

I have a 500GB drive from Aldi, the make is Medion, whether or not this is a hot deal.

it will be MEdion and they are a big brand with good quality stuff

everythings made in china nowadays anyway, so what difference does the make make? If you get my meaning.

One-off where ? how many?

I have seen info that medion uses WD HDDs. Can't find it now tho

Purchased in Wigan store, they had loads out but they where selling fast.

If you can get one it's a 100% bargain, they don't make the drive inside it will be one of the main HD makers, Have had no problems at all with computer stuff bought from Aldi.

Excellent price, will try my local store tomorrow.

Wish they would put these offers on the web site.

heat, great spot OP

What on earth is wrong with a 3.5" drive? They are normally powered and a better choice than 2.5 unless you want a mobile drive, in any case can you even buy a 1Tb 2.5 Ext drive?

Agreed. It makes me laugh how some people assume more well known products are made in the clouds of heaven or something.
For example the workers in factories that make products for the holy Apple have to sign anti-suicide pacts when they get employed:

Now Chinese workers are being forced to sign a pledge that they will not … Now Chinese workers are being forced to sign a pledge that they will not commit suicide. Apparently the working conditions in this plant is extremely stressful, forcing employees to work 13 days straight for 12 hours shifts. The employees are not allowed to talk nor sit during this long strenuous shift.

Hot

2.5 for portability
3.5 for everything else , i use a 3.5 on my wii , pc , TV for avi through its usb , will pick one up if i can find one

Bargain! hard disk alone is worth it, just usb 3.0 enclosures cost a little less then this ! Would love to get my hands on one, if I do going to regret getting that caddy from novatach. Mind you cant complain for £9!.

Wouldn't risk it.

would trust this drive over and above a Seagate every day of the week. Medion are a quality German manufacturer using quality components

Seagate used to be a good drive manufacturer until their firmware nightmares bricked drives

No I dont get you meaning ! Chinese manufacturing can be at very high standards and very low small number of back street electronic workshops can also manufacture loads of things ! So Everything is made in China nowadays means absolutely nothing !

If anybody buys one and has second thoughts I'll have it ! As im going to be out the country for the weekend and no chance these are going to not sell out!

OP I wouldn't trust your data on these drives, so I think you should sell it to me

Just to clarify for those that are thinking and touting that they wouldnt trust medion or an aldi hard drive.

Regardless of the retailer selling the hard drive or the manufacturer of the case (medion in this example), the hard drive inside WILL be from from one of the big players (Seagate, WD, Samsung, Hitachi, Fujitsu etc). Medion do not make their own hard drives. £30 for any bare 3.5" HDD is hot, let alone with a usb 3 enclosure and a 3 year warranty from Medion. This deal is HOT!

Also, to the guy that thinks that 3.5" is old all i can say is

Time for bed sleepyhead. Night-night.

Not even for a chocolate biscuit?

very good deal

£29.99 for a 1TB USB3.0 HDD, pretty damn nice tbh, better than the £64 for a 3.0 1TB Core HDD from most retailers.

If you got usb 3.0, get this

This is not in their advertised "Special Buys", so very likely just a one off managers special.

how come aldi (a german market) is offering this hd much cheaper than here in germany? absolutely hot deal!

Yea I rate them as well, until I had a problem with a PC I purcahse from there. Between the two of them, they couldnt manage to run a pissup in a brewery. It took me 3months to get my money back. I was a little bit younger and neive back them, and arent armed with the wealth of consumer right knowledge, as i am now.

I wonder what would happen if someone signed the pact and then did commit suicide, would they get sacked??

Medion is a very big brand, these drives normally have a known brand (I have a 500gb drive Seagate inside nearly four years old still working).

As far as hard drives go it`s all pot luck I have 7 different drives (Samsung, Seagate Fujitsu which will fail I don`t know ) and they are all backed up so touch wood:p

This deal is probably store specific but still HOT8)

I've had the other 1TB aldi version which comes with esata for about a year now. Been v happy with it. It's a hitachi drive inside and no problems with it at all. The price for this USB 3 version was £59.99 in my local Aldi a few days ago and indeed wonder if this is just a local store offer.

If you can get this for £30 that's one hell of a bargain, particularly if you can use the USB 3 connection.

expired - this is fake

What a great deal. I just got an IOMEGA 2T for £84.99 I though that was a good deal but this is even better. Though for me, not having two power supplies swings the deal.

pcworld.co.uk/gbu…tml

This is a tad on the hot side considering it's not been confirmed anywhere else has them other than one store.

Great Deal. Hot from me, if it is a medion product then I can recommend them as we have 3 Medion PC's and 1 external drive in our house. Never had a problem with any.

How times change - I remember buying a 1mb RAM chip for £110, and that was a good deal! This is a great deal. 3 year warranty on Aldi kit, and in my experience has been well made. I would trust it as much as any other - (in a striped RAID array if you are really worried).
Hot - good find.

Visited my local Aldi (Hamilton) looking for a couple of drives, but was to they are selling for £69.99. Perhaps its a Scottish thing?
