Sorry, forgot to add that i was thinking of getting this and a seperate monitor. I realise that it doesnt have an operating system but do people think this is a good price for a home office computer. Only needed for word, excel internet etc.

thanks

This will be more than adequate for home-office use although if you want to save cash, you could probably pick up a used P4 base unit for £40-50 which would be fine for you too.

This machine was posted a couple of days ago at £209.99 as a deal of the day. There were a lot of comments to that which may help

p4= intel pentium 4, good price have some heat. As for operating system put xp on it, then use windows 7 at a later date.

Computerman is right,

For what you need it for you may as well get a second hand pentium 4 machine, slap some cheap extra value ram in it £14-18 for 2* 1gb sticks on ebuyer, and your laughing. Spend the rest on a nice monitor, microsoft keyboard and a decent mouse.

Base Unit = the case/ tower that holds all the components

Shouldn't the title be "price INCREASED by a further £10"?

Will this play COD 4 ? While editing multiple video files at the same time?

P4 machines will more than likely use DDR1 memory, not DDR2, DDR1 is very expensive now and you would not be able to buy this for £18 for 2x 1gig.

This is a nice system, I would say check the PSU that is in there and if adequite buy a cheap ATI 4870 and you have a very nice performing gaming machine

LOL!, hardly, you will need firstly a decent Graphics card for COD4 plus a OS which will bang on a couple of hundred quid, my advice buy a pc that fits your requirements for the get go, never buy a PC from pc world check out scan they custom build and are resonable.

I was joking lol. I had to get in first with the silly over the top program question lol!

Generally when deals like this come up, people ask if the machines will run nasa main computers while powering up a USB cup warmer . . .

You can second hand

You can second hand

Would dispute that too, looking on Ebay 2GB DDR1 second is going for £25 at the least.

Got mine delivered yesterday, machine is nice and small (compared to my old one anyway..)
I installed XP and had no problems at all.

Out of curiosity what wattage and model PSU does it have in there.

Is the Intel E5300 Dual Core Processor 2.6Ghz, better than an Athlon 3800?

Yes.

Absolutely kicks its backside destroys it.

It is a 350w psu but this is okay for a 4850/4770 gpu and will then play must games at good frame rates.

You might get away with using a 350w PSU with the 4770, no chance on a 4850.

You didn't say which model the PSU was, el cheapo OEM brands usually have next to no available amperage on the 12v rail. Which is the critical rail for powering your GPU, CPU, Hard drives and DVD Drives.

But if it were me I would ebay that PSU and replace it with a premium brand of around 450w or more, something from OCZ, Coolermaster, Antec or Hiper would give you good value for money.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but every time I've looked at this PC on ebuyer its always been at £219 and has been posted numerous times at this price. So voting cold on that basis. Refer to the other threads for indepth discussions on this pc including recommended PSUs and graphics cards.
