Why cold? Where else can you find this spec for a Laptop brand new with warranty?

i suspect people voted cold due to unknown ebuyer make, but it is a good spec. the cpu is low spec but at this price it is expected.

I think this is a good deal - perhaps people are reluctant to buy an OSless machine, but personally I wouldnt have a problem with that.

Looks pretty cool as well. heat from me.

I wonder if system drivers come with this deal because if not, this can be a pain (Windows drivers included in OS are normally useless). Another problem could be low quality components. It's really not cheap enough to take a risk on that, imo.

I would have though it would come with a disk with drivers on it. After all you buy and compnents be it GPU/motherboard/sound card etc.. they all come with drivers.

Anybody bought one of these last time around? If so how did you get on with it?

the laptop seems made by Clevo so quality will be good , also drivers should not be a problem.I do not like SIS chipsets but...for that price...Hot from me

I'd say it's cold (although I'm not voting) because it's a fairly standard price for a dual core Celeron, although it's not clear how these stack up against the T1600 celeron dual cores or Pentium dual cores. You can get dual core Pentiums, and even Core 2 Duos with operating system for not that much more.

It's Celeron Dual Core with 1mb(1.8ghz ),800mhz fsb and Penryn core. In theory, it should be faster than the 'older' Pentiums Dual Core (Yonah, Merom, no mention CDC) - T2XXX, it would match T3200, being just a little slower than T4200.Fairly good cpu IMO.

With no OS this looks initially good for putting Linux on. However a quick google for the SiS M672 integrated graphics reveals this would appear to be a chip set to avoid under linux. 2d drivers at best - 3d no go!

If you want to install Windows this could be a good buy but I'm highly doubtful..

Im tempted by this! BUt at Dell outlet you can get a better processor + 3gb of RAM for the same price... and that comes with Vista

anyone taken the leap?

"You get a disc with the drivers and utilities included along with a CyberLink DVD suite.2

I was just looking at this one, for me the minus OS is actually a good feature, I'm not sure if it will meet my requirements though.

Nethertheless, anything has to be better than my current laptop.

Yeh i've got loads of OS licences laying around so i'm fine with no OS.

Unless your requirements are gaming, how could it not meet them? it seems pretty powerful!?

I always re-install a backup OS image on all my new computers.

Bought a better spec Dell from their outlet store yesterday (same except my Dell has 320gb and a faster processor) for only £327 with Vista Home premium - plus I get free upgrade to Windows 7.

This is an OK deal but not hot.

And you know this for a fact or just guessing? Just guessing of course. I've been using W7 for 9 months and am now using the RTM and W7 "detects" lots of drivers but not all.

This is an OK laptop especially if you put W7 on it or have a spare XP kicking about. Still, some work involved but most people will avoid.

No it doesn't. The disc it came on would have to be stupidly big unless you mean via Windows Update in which case, not all drivers are on it.

Oh yeah? Well this isn't used.

Regarding the Linux graphics issue, while 3d is a no-go, it's still fairly easy to get the card working OK, and compiz graphics effects will still work, albeit slightly slower. I certainly wouldn't let the graphics card put you off.

I wouldn't really say Dell Outlet is "used"....

I'm not voting, but, between a £327 Dell outlet or this no-brand no-OS eBuyer, I'd pick Dell Outlet.

The Laptop is branded Logiq, and the 4gb RAM will more than compensate for any loss of CPU power. . . You get a CD with up to date drivers, and it has 5 stars in the 12 reviews it has received so far. . .

3 questions

1. Although it has a 6cell batt, any idea of the battery life when its not plugged into the wall?
2. Will this run Photoshop with out staggering?
3. Will the run Google Sketchup with out staggering?

Cheers

Also, voted hot regardless.

Erm, no, 4gb won't compensate for a slow processor.

With the laptop lid cover from Poundland,it would be nice.

I'm just guessing so take this with a pinch of salt.
I'd guess 3 hours on the battery with normal use.
Photoshop will like the memory and it is dual core so should run ok. It's just not going to munch through image processing. Not sure what google sketchup uses for its engine. If its software rendering then I'd imagine it would be pretty clunky and since the 3D on this is very weak, I wouldn't expect much from opengl/directx rendering either.

Just wondering, you would be fine with a 15" screen for design work? I think that would kill me but I guess you have to trade usability with lugging it about.

Thought that the outlet ones didn't have the upgrade to Windows 7? Only know cos I was looking at them and there is a big banner on the front page

I am soooo tempted to get 3 of these for the kids chrimbo pressies.
I have had a look around, but to no avail, for anything close to these spec sub £300!!
Im not worried about no OS, anyone able to point me towards anything with similar spec, before I bite the bullet, would be greatfully appreciated

Just bought this, will be here tomorrow.

If you want to play safe you could get this from Dell:-
