The ordeal of super-heroic, singularly dedicated FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta - BLOW OUT, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER) is only beginning after finally capturing his arch nemesis, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage - WILD AT HEART, NATIONAL TREASURE), an elusive, maniacal terrorist who claimed the life of Archer's son. While Troy languishes in a coma, Archer surgically 'borrows' Troy's face in an attempt to gather evidence about Troy's last bomb--which is currently ticking away in a Los Angeles office building. Trouble ensues when Troy wakes up faceless, borrows Archer's visage, and makes a mess of Archer's life; all the while, both men struggle to adapt to their new identities while struggling to blow each other away.

Another balletic, thematically complex action smorgasbord from Hong Kong action director John Woo (HARD BOILED, THE KILLER), FACE/OFF is the perfect showcase for the acting talents of Travolta and Cage, each spending most of the film perfectly imitating the other. The pair are also ably supported by Joan Allen (THE CONTENDER, THE ICE STORM), Allesandro Nivola (I WANT YOU, GOAL!) and Gina Gershon (BOUND, SHOWGIRLS).

Great film!!!!

Both should have had oscars for best actor, their swap (once the technical part is brushed over) is just so convincing.

You two cannot be serious, do you honestly think this is a great film. I thought this was a travesty and I am one of Woo's biggest fans.

The acting is horrendous, truly, truly awful. The bit that really gets me at the end when John 'closet' Travolta walks through his front door with a strange kid his wife has never seen before she immediately says 'OK' lets adopt him, LOL, a serious misjudgement by Woo, I'm surprised he worked in Hollywood again after this...MI2 was dreadful as well.

Flame over, but not worth the disc its printed on

I actually quite like the film but come on it's 11 years old.

11 year old films are always going to be found for around £3 somewhere or other.

Same price in Asda too.

Damn straight it's a rubbish film. It has all the elements to be great but just never reaches it

Well I'm no expert, just your average movie fan. My girlfriend on the other hand has a degree in drama and performing arts and she thinks the acting is first rate too.

This is a great action film. Sure, its not exactly going to tax your brain cells...but who cares. If you want top notch acting and a sensible plot, go to the theatre. :-)
