Stops it being confused with the but and groin shields we all have.
i think face shields are better than masks as you can breathe properly through a face shield!

I prefer taking to someone who is wearing a face shield rather than a cloth mouth / nose mask. The bar staff at my local use these shields.

yeah, i haven't tried to talk through a mask either, but i find when others do, their voice is muffled. with a face shield you can talk freely without any impediment.

so you are less likely to mess around touching your face all the time like you tend to do when you wear a mask.

They have some at Home Bargains, I think £2 each.

But thats actually why these are pretty useless, theres a reason the mask is supposed to be tight to your face, its so that air with potential particulates cannot get through due to the filter, these dont have a filter and even have a massive gaping hole around them with no filter.

you are talking about PPE masks. current government guidance is to wear a face covering, so a lot of people are wearing surgical masks. however i think it will be better to wear a face shield as it is about stopping the virus going into the air when you cough or sneeze. the virus would not be able to penetrate the plastic face shield, but it would do the surgical masks and other face coverings.

its not about the plastic, its about the massive gaping hole around it, air can move in all directions, so if you cough or sneeze its still going to get out around that

Yeah, green ‘Envirovisor’ banner I think. One of the Velcro bits didn’t have tape but still able to fasten on and my husband prefers it to the masks.

wearing the face covering recommended by the government is not about stopping what you breathe going into the air but to slow down the particles when you sneeze or cough as wihout obstruction, it can be shown to reach up to 8m from the person. so the face cavering is to reduce this distance and so help to ease the spread of the virus, not to stop it completely as that is only possible with a PP3 mask, which is not widely available to everyone at the moment.

the plastic shield will do the same with the particles coming directly out of your mouth as they would be travelling at right angle to your face and hit the face shield.

not to mention the plastic face shield would also protect you when someone coughs or sneeze directly into your face as it would stop the particles getting on to your face, like your eyes, which a face covering would not be able to do, so in terms of protecting yourself, a face shield is better than a face covering.

It doesn't need to penetrate it, it just goes around... (unless you think air only moves in straight lines???).

Yes... because of course, air and droplets within it travel in straight lines...

1) where do you think it goes after the air travels at right angles?
2) it's not only with pp3
3) there is no way to measure 'better' (face covering vs face shield) it's a both items if you can, coverings are more convenient.
Ie It's like mosquitos getting into a room, you can have large netting which they can bump into but not small enough which blocks them from getting through, or a partially opened window. Neither is ideal.

Are these meant to be re-usable? Do you wash them and use them again and again?
If not, and they are disposable, then it is a massive waste of plastic.

Needed to remove mine to sneeze so I guess that defeated the object. I would have looked like I’d been attacked by a ghost.
