Fed up of the battery life, data sucking beast that's the normal Facebook app? This is the official, lightweight version of the app - it's been available in other countries for a while but it's finally come to the UK!

It's already showing on Play Store now (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite) but not going to be on App Store by the looks of it

I just wish it wouldn't come pre loaded on handsets and cannot remove it
Shame this is cold but not too bothered as long as it helps someone!
Web version, no download/install, m.facebook.com/
I got this even better version and drains NO time OR battery...access on iPhone by holding down app for 3 seconds and clicking the X button when app starts shaking...

I agree, have it preloaded on my Galaxy S8. But I figured this would help those with phones without bloatware
About bleeding time FB. FB don't seem to have the foresight that lots of folks still use old handsets with old tech that can't cope with massive bloated apps with every update. This should have been out years ago, not now.
It's available for me now, just installed it. Hoping for a slimmer app experience!
Whats lite about it?

Whats lite about it?

Slim lite app version 85.0.0.10.176 is 1.61MB
vs
Full FAT app version 163.0.0.43.91 is 57.89MB

Hmm this might actually be useful. Facebook has used 350mb data in less than two weeks, mostly because of this stupid influx of meme pages making memes into videos so they know their views.

Thanks for posting, useful for older phones like mine.

I was going to say this isn't new, then remembered I'm in Spain. It's crap, by the way, as are all Facebook apps. I only view Facebook via browser, that way it drains neither my data nor my life.

its been out since 2015 (source: apkmirror.com/upl…ite ) obliviously still a bit rough around the edges back then.

i thought all this time the US had it and not the UK for some reason... but a quick google news search has showed me its going to be released in the US soon too lol
Is there a negative to downloading this version? I.e will I lose access to groups etc?
Just use a web browser, and pin a shortcut to your home screen. No need for any app then. Also if you have a custom launcher you can change the icon with an icon pack. Job done!
Could also try Maki about 24mb not perfect but least you don't have to keep changing to most recent every time you open it play.google.com/sto…ite

Just disable it ? Will use up barely any space then
Why are people voting cold on this or looks like a great app, I rarely use Facebook so prefer something like this. Wish the messenger lite had gifs then they would both be perfect

Google "ADB uninstall"

Even new handsets get massive battery drain. It's a more like a virus than an app.
Just saw that the Messenger Lite deal went really hot but this didn't. Shows how messed up voting is on HUKD!
Hate fb and it's manipulating policies.

Just googled it, no page seems to explain exactly how to do it! "run this command etc" ok, great, where? How?
There are far better options out there. I've tried most of the Facebook alternative apps and these are the best ones:

play.google.com/sto…app

They also have Pro version which is good too. But i recently switched to this one:

play.google.com/sto…wer

The main advantage with this one is that you can watch videos in HD quality.

In my opinion as stated using a web browser is a far better option especially if like me it's used very rarely. You can still see messages on Chrome by using Facebook mobile URL, then choosing desktop site, no need to install messenger. Just set up in your settings to send you an email when you have a message. Works great for me.

Ah I still like messenger, won't be able to see all the gifs people send if I don't have it

Yes just like my free 1000 nectar points got -300, and someone put 8 points eBay deal and got +300. If the trolls get in first you've had it
I've now got rid of both Facebook and messenger as they took over my life. As far as I could see though messenger lite was great but Facebook lite is a different beast it's just too limiting. Anyway now when I need to do an update which isn't very often I reactivate my account do the update and deactivate it again. Your lucky if you see me active.

You do know these hot and cold votes are not real? In real life they don't matter anything.
I've been sideloading it for a couple of years and testing againt wrapper apps.
Yes there is more functional apps out there, but this uses MUCH less data. That is the main reason I keep using it.

After researching how it uses less data it seems that the lite app has a dedicated server.

Thanks, sadly it didn't work and the comments say that it is the same as disabling an app, which I have already done.
Cheers for the link all the same.

You can disable it under app settings. I do this with several pre installed apps that I don't use.

Yeah I am aware (though I use the regular app since there's no point having two versions), thanks for the heads up though!
