Fairline Heavy Duty Shelving - store 5 x Worlds Strongest Man in your garage £29.98 @ Makro

We were looking for some sturdy shelving for our shop. Heavy duty metal framed shelving like this is normally circa £50 so to get one delivered for £29.98 or two delivered for £47.98 is really good value.

The shelving is rated for 175kg per shelf - or enough to neatly store five Žydrūnas Savickas in your garage, if you have the need to store clones of the World's Strongest Man.

The shelving may also be suitable for storing non-men things.

You do not need to be a Makro member to order from their website.

You can order online as a private customer and if you order two delivery is free. I had been looking for some of these so thanks for posting. Works out at £24 delivered (for two) each which having looked around is a very hot deal !! NICE

How did you get 2 delivered for £24? Do you mean £24 each?

Costco do similar but they look nicer, they have black shelves and no holes all along the corner pillars, but they are more expensive think they're £30-35 from memory

Thanks, ordered 2.

Mine have arrived today......:( Oh dear, they are pretty poor quality.....Yodel delivered them and all the packaging was torn to shreds.......everything was just thrown down the side of my house...I would never have signed for them if I was in. I have emailed Makro customer service......loads of bits are missing and the corners of the cheap mdf are all broken/bashed. Terrible - I want my money back - these are only fit for the dump. I cant believe Yodel left them all in pieces on the floor. I blame Yodel not Makro.

Do you reckon it's because the packaging broke, or because the shelves themselves are poor quality? Yodel are pretty useless though.

Yodel are really ****, best thing to do is call makro and say they never arrived, coz you didn't sign for them, if yodel say they delivered say there's nothing here, must have been taken, yodel will have to pay up compensation to makro

What colour is your front door?

from the pics it looks like you might be able to customise the arrangement of the shelving e.g. have 3 instead of 4 leaving bigger gaps. if so would be perfect for me .. assuming someone who's bought this is actually happy with the quality. anyone bought this can shed some light? cheers.

Heat added it. Just order two also for garage storage.

I had a Yodel delivery the other day. I was out, so the driver used his initiative & left the package in one of the recycling boxes down the side of the house.
Unfortunately, the box had recycling in it because, wait for it, the bin men were collecting that day.
Idiot.
As it happens, the bin man was a) honest and b) noticed
So, I actually *did* receive my delivery.

Those jokers once delivered me a small shovel whilst I was out - the delivery driver managed to get it through the letterbox somehow, where it fell and jammed the door, so when I came home I couldn't get into the house! There are still the marks on the door to this day, from having to try and force the door open with the shovel wedged behind.

I've been waiting from some decent shelves for the Garage and thought this might be a winner. But after reading the review above, i'm put off, even though these are cheap if they are heavy duty.

Can anyone else please confirm if these really are that crap.

See my review below.

Just a quick review on this shelving.

Delivered this morning at 9:05 by the dreaded Yodel. Had no problems with the driver leaving them in my recycling bin etc as I was in to take delivery, however the driver wasn't in a Yodel liveried van, just a battered old plain white Merc van, so I guess it was his own and hes freelancing.

Just finished putting the second lot up and I can say that they are not what I would describe as heavy duty. The 175kg per shelf is very optimistic. The shelves themselves are 8mm chipboard with very little support in the center (the cross members you can see in the photo is mostly to stop the front and back bracings buckling). The shelves I say would take 175kg if spread 'evenly' across the whole shelf but I wouldn't like to try it. I am 16st which is 100k and there is no way I would stand on the top shelf.

They went together OK, no screws involved just tangs on the front, side and back bits that slot into holes in the legs (a hammer will be required to drive them fully home). The height of each shelf can be as you desire. The shelves are essentially what gives the racking its strength which is pretty stable once all 5 shelves are in. Extra rigidity could be achieved by screwing them to the wall which is good practice anyways with tall racking.

They will be fine for my shed as I won't be putting anything that heavy on them so I am happy, but, if you want to put 175kg on each shelf, forget it.

There is a reason why you can pay upwards of £250 for similar shelving, you get what you pay for. I comes down to simple physics, 8mm of chipboard ain't going to hold 27 and a half stone.

Overall I'll give them 6.5 out of 10. Fine for light/medium duty but certainly not 'heavy' duty.

would it be easy to chop a cm or 2 off these, just realised my cellar is 179cm tall

Yes, I did it with mine to fit them into my shed. I used a strong pair of tin snips.

Thanks for the review. I've bought 30 for a stock room, hopefully they will be okay.

Seem great to me for the price, a doddle to put together! It would've been nice if the wood was laminated around the side, I can't see them lasting long in my old damp cellar!

Thanks for the review. Giving them a go, ordered 7. Not going to load them with too much so hopefully they should be fine.

ive had a similar experience with these, delivered in what seemed to be a dog savaged mess of tape and plastic, with parts hanging out everywhere all bent and/or missing, the yodel man was half way down the path when i got to the door who had already taken the liberty of signing for the package himself, and was left in tatters on my front door mat.

emailed makro about the missing/bent parts and am still yet to hear a reply since friday.http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e185/geothermalcat/delivery.jpg
