Falcon Nevada Hybrid Alloy Frame 18spd Hybrid 700C Adult Bike £99 in-store @ Asda

Seems like a good deal for a basic get-you-around-town bike. Won't be light, but it's an alloy frame so it won't rust. Seen in Cambridge store.

Yes I know it will send bikists into a rage, but it'll do me for a commuter bike....

EDIT: just took my own advice on this and got one, some more details- 18 speed shimano gears and a 6061 alloy frame whatever that is! Maximum inside leg 33inches apparently.

In OP

same price in Glasgow, not a bikist but did seem flimsy and need to be confident to build and tune up the bike. same with all out the box bikes though..

pretty sure its national, they have these in Asda Stoke anyway

Hard to tell from the image but if it is this one then i guess it is a good price halfords.com/cyc…-19

UPDATE: put the bike together and I'm quite impressed, especially for the price. Needs better tyres but a pretty good deal otherwise I think. Comes fairly well set up and doesn't take too long to get ready

Anyone else had experience with this? I'm tempted by this bike.

Yeah I just picked one up from Asda . Was priced at £99 but they reduced it to £85 .
Im pleased with the price but in all honesty build quality of the gear shifters , brakes and rear sprocket are reflected in the price . I wouldn't use this bike for hard off road use but should be ok for trips to the shops or work etc . With time I would expect problems with the twist grip shifters ( the mechanisms feel and sound a bit plasticy ,not solid ) , the 'V'brakesystem arms and mounting assembly isnt all that substantial either ....it would take much to snap those in a fall , the rear 6 speed sprocket doesnt sound smooth in freewheel ( like the ball barings are not properly seated and or greased ) . I wont be complaining as I think the price is about right , the frame is solid its not very heavy for such a cheaply priced hybrid bike .
I think I'll wait for things to fail (because they will) and just upgrade parts as I go .

To be fair as a hybrid, it's not *made* for hard off-road use, you need a mountain bike for that anyway. I feel quite happy with it for trail-riding, and in fact am just trolling up and down the guided busway to work, and it feels fine. the gears need more adjustment now I've used it a couple of times, and I personally was impressed with the fact it had Shimano gears - the previous cheap road bike I replaced (decided I really don't get on with drop handlebars), had no-name gears, so for £100 I don't think they're to be sniffed at. At £85, a real bargain.

now reduced to £80, ideal to potter about with my daughter whos learning

Reduced to £50 now

An absolute bargain at £50 . I remember my first bike as a teenager cost £150 and that was 28 years ago. I think it was a Peogeot premier .
Anyway have been tweeking the Falcon , no serious problems yet apart from a bruised bum from that saddle . Rear sprocket still sounds a bit strange in free wheel ..like a bag of nuts n bolts grinding away . cant be bothered to take it off just yet as it still works fine Ive have oiled it tho.
I think I prefer Hybrids to road or mountain bikes as it puts me in the mind of my youth (tracky bike days) but with all the perks of 18 gears and twist grips .

Baws, I'm £17 worse off

Got one of these at Asda Pilsworth for £50 at the weekend. Built it last night & so far I'd say a steal at £50. We'll see how it rides at the weekend.

I bought this bike for 85 pounds at ASDA. My first experience was very successful when i set it all up. But during my first ride, after about 200 meters!, my rear wheel was bent so far i cannot continue ride. My first though, omg what i just bought, this is piece of ... . Take bike to home, adjust wheel. And afted this was ok. Bike works smoothly and nice, but stil need wd40 and oil. But i have no strenght to this wheels. I have to adjust it time after time. They are too weak, definetly (i'm weight 77kg). Big plus is alloy frame, but the rest looking really bad, i keep bike in my garden, and after 2 months use looks horrible. Rust is everywhere i think i will sell it :S. I can't recommend it anyone,

take it back then. Had no problems with mine apart from needing to adjust the gears so far though not used it for a bit
