Maybe I'm mis-remembering it but I think the Solent is one of the most expensive crossings per mile in Europe. About time there was a bridge across!

Went on a hovercraft in the 90s to France With the car Does this take vehicles
Honestly 1 day was not enough for me. I went for 2 days trip by train. The ferry cost is also included in the train ticket, so haven't thought of hovercraft. Very nice place. The best I can say is Alum Bay Pebble Beach.
It was so nice to see on that day.

Is there somewhere cheap to dump the car?

Afraid not. Just passengers, bicycles, mail/parcels. I don't think there are any car carrying hovercrafts left in the world (excluding military).

Park and ride! You can do 'park and sail' I think it's called and its £3ish for the family to get a bus to southsea instead of portsmouth! However, the portsmouth park and ride car park shuts at 8pm

Maybe look at the park and ride. I’m not sure if it runs as far as southsea.

No, this one is just passengers. Therein lies the issue - you get to Ryde beach in the Spring and then have to find some other public transport to visit one of the attractions. Not as cheap or quick but easier to just hop on the Red Funnel from Southampton (or Wightlink from Portsmouth) in your car.

The full price is outrageous, but this is a good deal as is.
When I was living in Belgium a colleague asked how my day was going. I did a google translate thing and said
"Mijn hovercraft is vol palingen!" "My hovercraft is full of eels!" he thought it was one of the funniest things he had ever heard.... ahh those crazy Belgians. Pretty good to go on a hovercraft though......(without the eels :D)

I've been there and apart from Callanish recommend the IOW.
Make sure to get your jabs and bring your passport.
Hovercraft is so 1980s retro.
There are only two things you can see on a hovercraft - spray outside and vomit inside.

These hovercraft aren’t old - only about 2 years old.
very nippy on the Solent - apart from when there is bad weather (doesn’t run)!!!!
You can also get a combined Rail & Hovercraft ticket, which may work out cheaper if coming by Train....from memory if you select
XRD (Ryde Hoverport) as your destination then SouthWestern Railway do a combined ticket that includes bus transfer to the Hovercraft terminal and the hovercraft crossing as well.

Nearest free parking without restrictions is on Eastern Parade near Canoe Lake/tenth hole cafe, its a 30 minute 1.5 mile walk along the seafront. Otherwise you can park right next to the hovercraft for £12 for the day.

Good grief the memories.
I went to IOW by hovercraft as a kid.
My dad missed the last one for the day after driving down from Scotland, so we were forced to take a b&b for the night.
It turned out that mine hosts hubby was a hovercraft pilot, & I got given technical manuals and other memorabilia. I was over the moon and IOW wasn't half bad either.
Especially the model dinosaurs at blackgang chine ( wonder if that's still going) and the multi coloured sands at alum bay.
Happy days indeed.
Don’t bother, there’s nothing on the Isle of Wight. It’s a graveyard

Funny that, some island folk might say the same about the mainland.... t*t

Most expensive ferry in the world (apparently) by cost/distance.
There’s a lot of deals with hovertravel lately. I certainly get a lot, more than one a week at the moment. Even though it’s winter, they never usually do as many deals. I wonder if times are getting tough.....

Wight link if your desperate shippers!
Waste of money if you are thinking of taking this for an experience, once inside you feel like being in a coffin. Windows are located so high you can't see any thing. Had more fun seeing the hover craft docking, undocking, maneuvering
Good experience when I went on it a couple of years ago, not every day you get to go on a hovercraft. The Isle of Wight is fantastic, would go again. Definitely recommended.
Thanks think the price usually hovers around this

Black gang chine still going, lots changed over the years. Robin hill also a good day out.

What, that the mainland is a graveyard?
This deal could be worth it just for the experience of going in a hovercraft. It would be new to me... 😜

It’s just missing the red British Rail sign on it. That’s how I remember hovercraft in this country.

Trying to limit the number of Grockles!
Just joking....
Seriously though, extortionate prices nothing to do with iow tourist board, just super greedy ferry companies. See how the same crossing inexplicably triples in price when IOW festival is on... tells you everything.

Argh, hate that price gouging! At least when it's packed full they are maximising revenue, no need to put prices up!

I did a few flights from Shoreham to Sandown when I lived down that way. Maybe I should run a charter service during the festival! Could easily cover my costs for £25pp each way
Thanks
