(Pinched and modified from MSE email) Sign up for the free two month trial of the family railcard and then buy at the discounted price of £13 for a further 12 months, HOWEVER, when you buy your full railcard it entitles you to join the YHA for free at the same time.
A great offer for families looking for cheap getaways by train this summer, OR a cheaper way of getting a family membership of YHA even if you dont use the railcard.

Details of railcard offer

Until midnight on Wed 13 May you can sign up for a free trial of the Friends and Family that lasts until 31 July. The card cuts a third off an adult's ticket and 60% off kids' tickets when you have at least one adult and one child travelling. You can have up to four adults and four kids travel on one card.

At the end of your trial you'll receive a special code to allow you to buy a 12 month Family & Friends railcard at 50% off. The card currently costs £24 yet is rising to £26 on 17 May so will cost you £13 with the code. You'll only be able to buy the half price railcard between 24 July and 21 August.

This offer was originally part of a National Railcard promotion with the Daily Mail, it's only available online at Family & Friends Railcard web page. Weve permission from National Railcards to include it here.

The Railcard can't be used on weekday morning peak services entirely within the London and South East area. If you're unsure when these times are, as they differ according to the route, then check with your local station or call the National Rail Enquiries line on 08457 48 49 50. Yet very occasionally some special fares (e.g. cheap London to York/Edinburgh below) undercut it so check, but for regular train travel it's great.

On previous occasions a similar offer's been on some people waiting until the last day to register have experienced problems so it's advisable to do it earlier rather than later (and that means your trials longer too).

Good find, had one of these for six months before, I did use it a couple of times, but forgot to take up the whole years renewal, when it was due. Can't see any mention of the YHA offer on the deal.
Heat given

Try a network railcard railcard.co.uk/net…ork. If someone you know has a one year ticket then you can pay £1 instead of £20. You still get a reasonable discount.

Heat added. We've currently got one due to expire in July, hopefully another offer will be on then. They're really worth getting if you and your families are willing to travel a lot by train. We've saved loads.

You'd be better off getting this one now as even though the dates on the two might clash at least it's makes sure you will be included in the half price offer in July.

Have had these the last two years. Didn't sign up for the full 12 months on either time but seriously considering doing so this time around.

Cheers OP thank for the heads up.

Heat and Rep!

I think you just need to BUY a child ticket! Even if you do not actually have a kiddy, this is still cost-effective.

No you need to travel with a child who has a valid ticket. Have you seen the scale of the fines these days?

ive registered thanks very much

Seems to be taking a while to come through. Anyone got theirs yet?

No not received mine yet:?

Mine arrived today. Blank card valid to 31/7/09 - write names of up to two people (ie adult ticket purchasers) on front, each can then use it to buy discounted tickets for up to 8 people, online and at stations.

Renew online between 24/7/09 and 21/8/09 at [url]familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk - use code DAILYM09 to buy at £13 instead of £26!

Same here.

recived mine too, thanks op

Yep got mine on Friday. Thanks to the OP.

Anyone else still not received their railcard?

Got mine thanks OP. Obviously best to buy the discounted Railcard on the last day (August 21st.) so as to get the longest validity. Thats as long as you don't need to use the card between August 1st. and the 21st. :-D As previously said, the discount code is DAILYM09, not sure if anyone can use this code to get the discount between July 24th. and August 21st, or if its renewals only.

Actually mine was automatically extended to 21.08 last time
